Hi guys, my TNW 1919 went out for the first time yesterday and the bolt won't close on its own usually. Takes only the slightest tap on the charging handle to close it, but it often ends up between 1/4" and 1" out of battery. It did manage to cycle completely a few times. I was running metal links for reference, and they were feeding just fine, so long as I kept tapping the bolt forward. Any ideas?

I hate you because you can ask this question. :(

How much are you lubricating it? I know they last time I saw a 1919 going the guy was dousing it with WD40.

Did you check headspacing? When it stops at the 3/4" or so spot, the headspacing is too tight.

PS - click the barrel out until it will go into battery on it's own from the sticking point you mention, then two more clicks for a 30'06 and three more clicks for a .308

(I'm being the typical internet expert here, I've only had mine for a few months - but headspacing is the first thing I had to do).

OK appreciate it guys, I'll reheadspace and lubricate, I suspected headspace was the issue but haven't adjusted it yet as it's all new to me. Fun toy though, I gave absolute hell to a boulder about a hundred yards out to the point of cleaving off 6" of the face of the rock :D Took a hundred round belt but it was a good show as the granite really "poofed" every time a round struck... Now I need to dump my stash of '06 tracers and get some .308's. (Sold my .30-06 1919 build, bought a TNW .308)

Please don't use WD-40 as a lubricant.

It's a good penetrant, but doesn't leave much in the way of lubrication behind.
I don't want to start the old "My Favorite Oil" thing again, but My Favorite Oil is Tri-Flo.:) Works like a hot damn!

Just wait 'til I get my M2 up and running....

It's down to a feed issue now.

Here's a pic:

It has since seen a cold blue (steel wool and another blue coat to follow shortly) as well as some detail work, but the feed system is the only holdup now.

It's been testfired single-shot, and it works.

It will not (unfortunately) be a belt-fed system, I'm looking at magazine feed, probably a Ruger Mk II system.

Having used MG's for the last 3 years use a really thin water like oil.. Anything like CLP or grease will just attract carbon and gum up and slow the action and make the gun not work that well.

Also I found that dont skimp out on the oil. MG's wont work if its spot less. Get a spray bottle or something and oil the feed paws, bolt, rails etc very good.

What caliber is that M2 ? .22 lr (Ruger MkII magazines) ???
Comparing the size of it with the coffee cup, I estimate this MG to be at least 1/4 size of the "real" .50 cal M2.
Who manufactures that thing ?

x 2 on the headspace culprit. Also, you may wish to try running the links up-side-down. My TWN will only work this way. (double loops facing first)

BTW - If you intend to run only links, you may wear through the trunnion very quickly as this area is surprisingly very thin. I already have a couple of "grooves" in mine after only a few hundered rounds of running links. You may want to go with a trunnion protector or run using only facric belts if you want to avoid a rather big problem.

follow the instructions for the headspacing without the tool. it's pretty easy unless you have the tang with the little foot on it (like i have), pain in the ass to adjust. tell me when you're taking it out next and i'll join you with mine.

BTW got an extra trigger spring? mine broke..

Would love to, and sorry, no springs... :(

Are you taking it out to Ridgedale ?:D

Do ya think I could mount a couple of those on the wing-struts of my Bushmaster ?

Dang! I gotta get out to the range more....

Yep, had it out to Ridgedale Sunday Jack :) Would look great on your Bushmaster :D Just need some tracers... Hell, it might even be legal out in the bush! Shouldn't be too bad on the weight and balance either dead on the wingstruts... :D

It's actually not one of the lakesides, I'm pretty sure they won't ship up here....it's a project gun.

It won't be a link-fed system though, that's a bit beyond me engineering skills as of this point in time, so magazine feed it is!
