MI Tavor extended handguard

I've had it for a while.

If you're doing a lot of shooting where you're using barrier rests, then an extended handguard has a real solid purpose. The Tavor factory handguard is great to hold, but not so easy to lock in against a flat surface.

If you've got lots of non-zeroable keymod accessories I suppose it's good that way too.

Last summer I loaded everything and the kitchen sink onto my Tavor. This year I haven't used the keymod at all.

The pseudo-barrel shroud thing is kind of cool, but if you're looking to mount a grip & a light there are lots of other replacement hand-guard options from other companies.

Rant Roundup: Do I use mine? Not currently. But I like having it. Would I sell it? Not a chance.

^^^^ Agree,

Just picked up a used Tavor from a great 'nutter last week and it had the extended MI rail. Really good to have that little extra length for longer range shots, i find it just gives me a little more purchase on the rifle.

TV, where are you buying your key mod picatinny rails?

Thanks TV. Most of the shooting I do with my Tavor is off hand with the exception of 300 yard stuff at which time I drop to prone but don't use a rest. Any idea which retailer currently sells them?

If this is your shooting style, the MI handguard isn't going to offer any advantage, other than adding extra weight to your Tavor. I use mine for 'yote hunting, at least since I had to lock up my Swiss Arms. It's great kit and looks bada$$, but like Ed, I took mine off too. It offered me no advantage, as I was mostly shooting from improvised field positions, including my ruck or shooting sticks.

Jury is still out for me. I run one on mine and like that I can mount my light at 11 o'clock with the rail section on the keymod. I put rubber covers on mine because it gets cold in winter and slick in summer.

It works for now but there may be better options.
I don't notice additional weight though.

Hmmm, that's a good point. Time to get some beers with the guys at Fab Defense and put the idea in their ear!

While you have their ear maybe you could get them to design something simple like a small pic rail that contours to the side and attaches using the factory hand guard screw at the 3 and 9 o'clock position ? (see picture for example) I've used my buddies extended handguard and didn't like the added weight to install something small like an inforce or scout light.

Not wanting the added weight of an extended fore end, I cut strips of skate board tape (just a hair under 1/2") and applied them to the grooves between the ridges on the factory fore end. Greatly improved the 'gription'. Total cost - $10 for the role of skateboard tape.

I love the look of it and would never take it off. I sold my original factory hand guard so I’m stuck with it now anyway. No regrets.
