New situation I've found myself in, looking for advice from anyone else who's encountered similar.

Back in late July/early August I sold a pistol to a guy on the other site. Everything seemed to go well; I was paid the night of Aug 3rd, initiated transfer morning of Aug 4th. Buyer confirmed receipt of transfer#. Nothing happened for 60 days so I figured I'd check in. Life gets busy, people forget things, etc. The strange part? Guy hasn't responded to email, text, or phone calls. Total ghost. I checked local obituaries, and he wasn't listed.

Thoughts? Advice? Try to internet sleuth his employer/spouse/family/etc? Contact the RCMP or Local PD?

I'm obviously not touching the gun or money until everything is finalized. Hopefully he's in one piece and healthy.

Cheers,

Could be a number of reasons, if he has any sort of social medias I would creep them.

How long since you've sent your last messages?

When the transfer hadn't occurred within 60 days I called to check the status, found out the other party never completed. Started attempting to make contact last week; have texted or called pretty much every other day since.

In case anyone may know him, name is Greg M. Lives in Oshawa.

Family first, employer might not release personal info of employees, police for a wellness check? Not sure about the latter.

First check his pal make sure it's still valid. No point wasting any time if it's not. I think you can do it online, not sure.

I'm guessing he's either got serious health issues or trouble with the law.

I don't know what to do after that. But if he didn't even call in complete his end, transfer wasnt really started

Potential health or where-abouts of the buyer aside, if he doesn't complete his end before the clock runs out, are you stuck with a gun you wanted to move?

If I really wanted to move the gun, given he's had 60 days and is incommunicado, I'd probably refund, cancel the transfer, and try and resell before it is too late.

Hopefully he is ok, but under the circumstances he'll either understand that he's put you in an awkward spot, or it won't be an issue for other reasons.

Return cash by EMT, keep a screenshot or other record of this
Call in and cancel the transfer.
List the gun for sale again.

That was lucky. Small world here on CGN. Saved you a whole bunch of grief no doubt.

Certainly.

Sounds like he’s new to restricted. Thought a private seller could do the whole thing, much like a business transfer. Good lesson for me, make sure the other party knows what they need to do. Upside is it seems like a rush of new RPAL holders are entering the sport. At least 3 of my sales in the past few months have been first time handgun buyers.

Yes good observation. Never hurts to check. I should probably be more patient and give folks the benefit of the doubt....

Interesting about all the new RPAL holders. The processing of new applications over the last few months seems to have met the demand.
