Hey,

Anybody around here have first hand experience on these micro-spotting scope?

CelestronHummingbirdSizeCr_0039.jpg

Looking for something smaller/lighter to log around. With more power than binoculars.

I don't have that model but I just Googled it. The Celestron Hummingbird is comparable in weight, size and price to the Minox MD 50, which I do have. It lives in my range bag along with a C-clamp type holder. Smallest decent scope I could find at the time. It's a little dim at full magnification but I'm happy with it for the price.

Got it at bushcraftcanada.

I also have a Minox MD50 (straight, there is an angled version, too) and think it is a good thing. Cabela'sCanada sold them for a while for about $300, not sure if they still do. I got mine from CameralandNY some time before I saw any in Canada and with the exchange rate at the time and shipping it worked to about $300.

I have the angled one. Was $330CDN IIRC.

I had the Minox. Nice package but not that robust based on my experience. Lost ability to zoom within a couple days. Fortunately Cabelas took it back. At 200 us, still worth a chance.

I've owned the Razor HD50 since they were introduced and been around a handful of the ED50s. Both are really great little scopes. The Vortex is a tiny bit clearer and brighter then the Nikon- to my eyes and most of the guys I know who've compared them- but the Nikon is very good and has way more eyepiece options. The ED50 is very user friendly with the fixed power eyepiece (30x?), very easy to get behind and use. The fine-focus on the Razor is very nice. Depends on priorities, both are very, very good choices in the category.
