I'm looking too add a mid caliber rifle to my collection.
I've got a Model 7 in .17 Rem, T3 in 22-250, and a Ruger VT in .220 Swift. Then jump to my ever so trusty Vanguard in .270.
Thinking of say a .243/6mm or .257 Robby or .25-06, or 6br. Any I've missed? Keep in mind that I love velocity, would be primarily a varmint rifle. I hand load so round availability is not a factor. Give your thought and or feedback any mid calibers I've missed thanks.

25-06, or 257 Rob is about as middle as it gets. 243/6mm is the low end on the middle, and 260, is too close to your 270...

Your choices of rifles available are better in the 25-06, than the BOB.......

yes, the 25-06 has a lot more factory loads, and load data for reloading with different weight bullets than the 257 roberts, but they are both great. I'd go with 25-06 because it's easier to find bullets in a hurry if you run out.
 
The .25-06 is so close to the .270 that it's hard to tell a difference with good bullets. I'd go .243/6mmRem/6mm-06/.250 Savage/.257Bob, depending on whether you want to lean toward the smaller side of the middle, or the bigger side, and also on how much velocity you really want vs. how easy you want the ammo situation to be.
 
Sell some of your present varmint calibers and build... a 6mm BR with a no neck turn chamber for Lapua brass...

with a medium heavy barrel similar to a Remington BDL varmint barrel using a custom barrel will give excellent high velocities and superb accuracy and a long barrel life.
 
If you like velocity then look at the .25-06 with the 80gr TTSX - IMR 4350 gives 3797fps; Hybrid 100V gives 3814 fps; and RL17 gives 3788 fps. Hybrid 100V is a compressed load, IMR 4350 is 100% load density.

I'd guess that the AI version would do even better. All those velocities are from Barnes and are out of a 24" barrel.

A 6mm rem/243 or 257 rob sounds about right - or - the way I see it is sell the 270 and get a 260 and 30 cal! 177(?)-224-264-308 is a pretty even spread!
It would be kinda cool to have a 5, 6 ,7, and 8mm set also....hmmmmm....
