Midland 308

Just wondering, did Midland make a 308 rifle before they were bought out by Parker Hale? Thanks in advance
Not likely, but borderline possible.

PH bought Midland in 1952

It says Winchester introduced its version of the T65 in 1952.

Neither source above says what month those particular events occurred, in 1952.

The Midland Gun Company was one of the Birmingham businesses when there was a major firearms industry in Britain. I think they mostly made decent quality double shotguns.
As mentioned, PH acquired the company. Most of the long time companies fell on hard times and were acquired, often for their names. Sam Cummings Interarms was one of these, he acquired the assets of a number of concerns. Val Forget's Navy Arms was another..
The Midland 2100 series was produced by Parker Hale as an economy line in parallel with the Mauser actioned rifles they were producing.
It was a real economy rifle.
The receiver was a casting with minimal finishing. It was dimensioned to use the PH trigger guard/magazine assembly, a slightly modified Mauser pattern barrel, slightly modified PH trigger group, Sile stock (Mauser inlet), and a slightly modified 03A3 bolt assembly. Clever amalgam of available parts.
HItzy mentioned gas handling. The Springfield bolt was designed for a coned breech. The Mauser pattern barrel has a flat, not coned, breech face. No internal collar in the receiver ring. Combining the two resulted in a setup with the cartridge head hanging out in the open air. Inferior safety breeching compared with either the Mauser or the Springfield - and the Springfield is worse than the Mauser. The Midland is not a rifle to be shooting if there is a catastrophic case failure..
