Might this load be taken with grain of salt ??

manitou

So , are you calling bull#### on the groups or on the load...:D I don't own or shoot a .223, but 80 grain slugs at over 3000 f.p.s. seems a bit steep. As for group size, is it possible to shoot that accurate ??

Sounds rather optimistic. Similar in nature to other .223 based claims made on this site.

With 25.4 gr of AR2208 and 80 gr projectiles at 3000 fps for two inches at 1000 yards!... I am surprised that he gets the projectile out of the bar-room.....which is where that was written, two bar-stools up from me.
Bullsh!t does not do that justice...lying, drunken piece of rubbish would be closer.
And yes, I will sign my name to that statement....J Stuart.

Ps, and if anyone wishes to take umbrage at my statement then contact me and I shall give over my residential address.

Actually, the load is OK with the bullet seated very long. I won't comment on the accuracy, but hey, 2 shots is still a group, isn't it?

Pressure would be 65,000 to 68,000 psi, so well above max, but the velocity does check out, maybe a little optimistic, but around 3,000 fps.

EDIT: These results are from QuickLoad. The calculated results are generally pretty good.

So James, what do your really think?? :dancingbanana:

Mike I am much too shy to say what I really think.......but I do get irritated by characters who tell fibs and think that I am stupid enough to believe them, particularly when the fib is so self evident, and what about the poor sap who doesn't know any better...he ends up with a skull full of useless (often dangerous) rubbish, not something we need when loading !
James.

Even before I mock the the accuracy claim....an 80gr pill from a .223 @ 3000+ FPS?

Maybe high 2800's or low 2900's

I would need to see the Chrono personally.

Out of a 30" tube, with the bullet seated out long to make room for a few extra grains of powder, and loaded to +p (but still safe) pressures, I could see it.

1" group at 500 yards? I suppose it is possible, if the shooter has world class skill, and a lot of money invested into the gun. If this claim came from David Tubb, or someone else with an established reputation and proven track record, I'd buy it.

"...world class skill..." With absolutely no cross wind of any kind. I'd say the guy is full of excrement. .223's aren't used for benchrest shooting at any distance either.

The world record is around 1.6" and there are numerous other sub-2" groups shot under officially sanctioned competitions.

Even a blind dog will find a bone once in a while. Show me a .223 Sportco rifle that can shoot sub 2 inch groups at 1000 yards day in and day out. Or even twice.

LOL I have never seen it either not with a 223, sub MOA shooters go to even 600 yards at one of the few long range ranges in Ontario I see 3-4 MOA with 308s, 223s and 338s. And some pretty good shooters to boot.

Hell! I would be impressed if i seen 1 inch groups at 300 yards at the Oshawa club.

Maybe us guys in Ontario just cant shoot.

LOL! or maybe I am just to honest!
It is instresting to read some of the and what the qualifications MOA at 200-400-600 yards are and what is expected. I would bet that these guys likely shoot a fair bit as well and just might have equipment on the better than us end of the stick.
