What are prices for these barrels here in Canada? I bought my Rock 5R .308 barrel privately quite some time ago and may possibly be looking for another.

I got one from hwsnbm a couple months back, cost me 500-ish shipped. Not sure how that price stacks up against others, but for what it's worth...

Was it just for the barrel blank or cas it chambered and threaded?

I called Mike Rock directly for a quote and spoke to him for about an hour, super guy and would have shot the #### much longer if I didn't have to go to work. At the time, R*** * had just become the Cdn Dist for Mike's barrels so he sent the barrel to him. He installed it on my Rem700 and shoots like a son of a whore. Couldn't be happier with it.

Regardless of

how good that barrel may be or any other from the US I just could not justify throwing out an extra 125.00 more for the barrel versus some of our barrels made up hear.

I know, I know, if you want it and you have the money, buy what YOU want and spend what you want.

In order for me to pay 500 dollars for any kind of barrel blank, it would have to be demonstrably better than the Harts, Kriegers, Shilens etc. which can be had for much less. Maybe Rocks are but I have my doubts.
I don't know how being the son of a whore would necessarily contribute to good accuracy. None of my rifles have that in their pedigree and they still do OK. Regards, Bill.

When I was looking for a barrel I looked at all the big names, and then went with a Canadian Manufacturer who was recomended to me by some VERY in the know............The barrel I got was made by Mick McPhee.

I couldn't be happier with it.When I do my part it shoots like a laser.:D

I know there is this "Mystique" about Rock 5R barrels, but so far my McPhee barrel shoots just as good or better, for less money and hassle.............;)

SKBY.

I heard the same thing about Mcphee barrels being wonderful, but I don't know about less hassle. I waited for one of those for months, only to find out it wasn't gonna happen... long story. I had the mike rock in three days from time of payment.
I've got several different 'high-end' makers barrels, all shoot well. I've heard enough and read enough about the various makes from knowledgeable folks, and I've no doubt there are many, many makers who produce excellent barrels (and many are Canadian), but I just felt like seeing some things for myself. It's my cash, what the hell.

I hear you.

The Canadian barrel makers don't pump out the volume, and are a lot more low key the their U.S. Counterparts. Therefore if you don't hit them at the right time, you could be waiting for a few months...................I was lucky and got my McPhee barrel at the right time.

The hassle I refer to is having to do the U.S. Export paperwork, and having to rely on the U.S. parts................I can see in the future that no firearms parts will be coming out of the U.S. due to their paranoia...............and if we don't support the Canadian barrel/parts makers, they will eventually disappear and then we will all be truly screwed................

But that aside, when I get my rifle back in action we have to hit the range and bust some caps!!!!!;) :D

Well, I would have no problem buying Canadian but from some of the stories I've read on this site, some of these barrel makers border on being premadonnas with customer service either seriously lacking or non-existent.

Having said that, I will own a Gaillard one day based on member testemonials here on the site. My gunsmith likes his barrels and has used a fair number of them with great success.
