I already have a tasco varmint 2.5x10x42 mounted on my 1022 and love the reticle, but am looking for a decent scope for my 223.
There are so many choices out there and I'm kind of on a budget, 250$ I know that you get what you pay for.

I would like a 10x power and something that is weatherproof as I am using this rifle for coyote's.
I'm thinking of a nikon prostaff 4x12x40 or a bushnell elite tactical as these two fit my budget.

I am a noob when it comes to scopes, are these good choices or are they garbage?

Nikon Monarch 3 4-16x42mm Mildot 1/4 MOA, they're built a little tougher than the Prostaff models if I recall, so they can handle being tossled a bit. I've been using it on my R700 .308 for the past 6 months and haven't had a single issue with it. Nice clear glass, solid turrets, parallax adjustment works like a dream. I know your budget is $250 but if you scrounge some pennies, for less than $500 it's a very good choice.
