I need either a 1 or 2 piece milspec picatinny base for a 700 SPS... is this out there?

I found this, for example (copy and paste into browser): mountsplus.com/miva/merchant.mvc?page=MSP/PROD/REMINGTON/BRP-SSA-010

All it says is "compatible with other mil-spec products"... I have TSR rings that are specifically made for picatinny and will not fit a weaver rail. I just returned a set of weaver bases because these rings don't fit on them, and the other weaver rings I tried all fit like garbage... leaving me to believe that weaver as a whole is junk since nothing is made to one universal spec.

Any recommendations?

Materials are important as well. EGW and Ken Farrell use a lower grade material then the 7000 series materials. Does Richard make any 7000 series bases? I have used Near, Farrell, TPS and Nightforce and I always thought TPS offered the best value (strength, qaulity and price). Almost forgot...Ken mentioned his rails were not really mil spec due to the cross slot size.

Aluminum or steel?
I was thinking of just going with steel TPS rings for my bolt action 700. Maybe with a nightforce two piece 20 base.

Any thoughts? Advantages, disadvantages? I like the look of the two pieces better, and as I understand it some single pieces can put torque on the receiver?

Richard Near's bases are top notch, as far as I'm concerned the best. I have a 25 moa base on a Rem 700 and a 20 moa base on a H-S Precision Pro Series 2000 HTR. It also depends what you are using the rifle for... work, play etc. You get what you pay for when it comes to optics and bases/rings. TPS also make good rings and bases at a lower cost. I have a set of 30mm rings on my H-S rifle and they are very good.

Something for you to think about....

If the one piece base (straight) torques or bends your receiver, imagine what will happen when you put your precision optical scope on the receiver!

I've been told to always check the rings are perfectly straight. A straight edge helps and lapping confirms.

I like TPS rings and bases. Joe ##### from ### International stocks them and has good prices. Do a net search for his website, as I understand Joe is no longer a supporting dealer & I can't hotlink for you.

No problem. That site was already in my favourites.
Not sure what scope I'll be going with yet . Probably the Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x 50mm. It's my current affordable favourite. Would I need the medium TPS rings for that? I like to keep the scope as close to the barrel/receiver as possible (low). I've heard that the TPS tend to be a bit higher. Would a low ring work? This would be with the 20moa nightforce two piece bases (providing I can get them).

Thanks
