i was down at milarm today and saw a whole wack load of the rumored garands. the rifles came from the middle east. i was told that after they fill back orders they'll have about 60 to sell.
the rifles that were out behind the counter were in pretty good shape as far as i can tell. and there were quite a few from harder to find manufactures such as H&R and International Harvester. i didnt check on if the internal parts all match. i'd say overall finish on those rifles are varying from 60% - 80% but some of them are under so much grease you just dont know what shape they are in until all the gunk is off of it.
here's the kicker, price. this is how it works, if you dont already know.
-rifles go from 600-800 to start depending on condition
-if its a WWII manufacture, like serial 2 million or below, its another 100 smackers
-if the rifle has rare markings on it (i dunno what those would be) its another 50
-and hand selecting fee is 50
so an M1 in good shape and WWII will probably cost you 900 - 1000 bones
well, if you have the dough you can definitely find a very nice garand there.
they dont go on sale until thursday morning, or until they are all entered in the catalog.
on another note, i had a good experience there today. i got to play with quite a few garands plus all the info i am now passing on to you. the staff was friendly and helped me find some cheap surplus 7.62 x 51 ammo for my m14.
