Milcun/Rob Furlong's Marksmanship Academy

I can't speak about Rob or his teachings, never met the man and never taken any of his courses. I have however, spent a considerable amount of time at MilCun and it is TOP SHELF. Keith and Linda are excellent shooters and excellent instructors, they have the knowledge needed to take your shooting up several notches and their facility is second to none.

Milcun is a world class facility run by world class instructors! You will never feel a more welcoming atmosphere and Keith and Linda aside all others I've encountered there have fit the same standard. Without plugging to hard I highly recommend them for all three weapons systems.

You might also want to consider TDSA Canada. Their precision rifle course is very field oriented, and includes a lot of field improvised shooting. The instructors have shot a lot of matches down in the US that simulate real-world conditions better than what we're able to do up here. They are located in the Niagara area, and do a lot of stuff out of Hamilton ranges.

I met Rob Furlong at SHOT in 2013 and thought he was a very pleasant fellow. I think his service with a rifle betters what most of us have done and I'd be very happy to learn from him. Having said that, Milcun is exceptionally well-regarded and therefore I doubt you could go wrong with either choice.

Met a local fella last week who had taken Robs Fighting Carbine course. Even though Rob is a long range guy, he had instructors that were carbine guys who were spoken very highly of. If it were a crummy course, in this day and age he would have lambasted it for being crummy. But spoke very highly of Rob and his guys and course content.

FWIW.....

I attended Rob Furlongs course in May 2014. Found the course good. Went through the basics of markmenship in class the first day, showing us how to get behind the rifle for better control. Then took us out to the range so we could actually practice the techniques. The approach that himself and the other instructor (Miles) was top notch, very good coaching style compared to a "Drill Sargent" barking orders to only shoot exactly how a book tells you too. They watched our techniques and adjusted them to fit our styles, yet better our final results down range. They truely understand shooting. My groupings went from around .75MOA to just under .5MOA and holdig this out to 800yards consistently now.

I met Miles at the Sniper Concentration before he deployed overseas and was later advised by the PPCLI Master Sniper, B.I., that he was the "top sniper".

MILCUN has more competition oriented experience and Rob has more field oriented experience. Your choice.

I met both. Great respect for both schools.

I you want to win a competition? I would go MILCUN with no hesitation. These guys are top shooters with a huge and impressive competition record behind them.

If I wanted to prep for a sniper school... I would go Rob's way.

If you are in Kitchener, MilCun is much closer. And there is a cabin in which you can stay, gratis.
Both Rob and Keith have seen active service in a combat zone, although Rob's is more recent. Keith routinely gives sniper courses (restricted to serving personnel).

As a graduate, a good chunk of MilCun's "bread & butter" comes from his LE Police Sniper courses. I agree though that they have a strong "competition" background.

Not saying they are not into MIL/LE stuff at all. Just a personal choice.

I took all of Robs military sniper courses and could not be more happy. Milcun although I have not been there I'm sure is a good place to learn, but Rob (in my opinion) is the best instructor in Canada maybe even all north america. Very professional and nothing was rushed, made sure that we understood every single aspact of what was being taught so we could bring it back to our units and shine on our sniper courses.

Just curious, did anyone use a 5.56 bolt gun? or a semi .308?
