I plan on doing a few mods to my 54 Russian SKS.
A vented hand guard and a red dot and a bipod.

What do you guys think? It is reversible but probably leave it modded. And add a drum magazine or similar larger magazine. I spotted a couple of drum magazines in a pawn store. What is the going rate for a drum magazine?

What would you do for mods or what have you done?

Here is one I did up.I also have another that I just put a vented handguard on it.
This one will be eventually fitted with the ArchAngel stock when it comes out.

What would I do?

I kept mine bone stock. I like to learn to shoot the sks more on intuition and feel. For me the sks is like a slingshot. Once you get the "feel" of it's shots, it becomes second nature. I think it's more fun too. For me it's not a serious shooting rig

I have seen too many guys at the range with 3-4 hundred into it and it looks fun, but for me I would just step up to an 858. The red dot though would be a pretty good upgrade

I've seen drums on here for between 179.00 and 209.00

Is there one manufacturer of the drums? Are the drums actually functional if unpinned? I wouldn't take the pin out unless the government said we could. Is the drum just a fake or would it actually hold 75 rounds?

I would put a trs 25 on a BC Tactical scout mount and not bother with the drum mag. Drum mags on an sks are a gimmick that will cost you as much as buying another sks. They are designed to fleece the gullible out of their hard earned folding.

Bipods are another gimmick. Use the stock monopod.

I modified the crap out of mine, somedays I regret I but other days I think it's the most awesome gun I have. The only thing I've done that is not reversible is thread the barrel and installed a Choate scope mount.

But at 75$ I'd just buy another one. A Really nice one. This one wasn't nice when I got it.
