Mildot crosshairs...thick

I have been looking at the Bushnell elite 3x9-40 mildot scope to mount on a savage 17HMR.

I have some concerns about the crosshairs being too wide or thick, in the middle zero part of the scope. I kinda wish they narrowed down like a conventional scope in the center.

My question I guess is this wider crosshair going to cover too much of a gopher at say 150 yards ? Will I even be able to see him behind the crosshairs or mildots ?

I was not able to sight 150 yards from the store I was at so I couldn't tell.

Bushnell makes a scope for the .17, I think it's a 3.5 to 10. It had a elevation drum set up for the .17 HMR. Sells for $117.00 or so. I know P & D has them

my elite 3200 tactical has a really fine crosshair where the mildots are. but its a fixed 10. My 17 HMR has a marstar 4-16 illuminated withmildot and it has also got a fairly fine crosshair.
 
I have an Elite 3200 fixed 10X and a Bushnell Trophy 3-9 X 40 with a mil-dot reticle and of the two, the Trophy has finer crosshairs. The only thing I noticed about the Trophy is there is a set of dots missing. My 10X has five dots going outwards from the cross hairs before it gets to the thickest part of the post. The trophy has only four. I measured it on paper at 100 yards and they seem to be spaced properly 3.5 or 3.6 moa.

As for reticle thickness, I have a cheapo Tasco 2.5-10x Varmint Tactical scope with really thick crosshairs and they will cover a popcan completely at 150 yards. If you hold straight on, you can't see it. Groundhogs shouldn't be a problem, but gophers and prairie dogs might.
 
You have to remember what the MilDot is originally for, PEOPLE. It's made for a sniper scope and not a hunting scope, 2 LEGGED ANIMALS that walk upright.
