whats the best for getting rid of military primer crimps , Do you ream or do you use the RCBS swager thing
whats better and why?
thanks in advance for the input guys

I prefer to swage as it seems to do a better job more quickly than reaming.I use the RCBS swage kit but it does consume a little time.

If lots of cases to prepare, I swage ( I own both the RCBS and Dillon tools). If just a few, I ream with the Hornady hand held tools. Both methods work fine.

swage then ream to uniform the primer pockets.

I have found it necessary to ream lightly after swaging with an RCBS too to insure smooth primer seating.

Often, I just remove the remains of the crimp with a touch of a power driven chamfering tool.

Removing crimp

Neither is better. Swaging is a bit quicker though. All you really need to do is chamfer the crimp off.

I remove the the crimp with a countersink in my drill press. I run the drill press at low speed and just hold the inverted case against the countersink for a second or so and the job it done. No faster, easier way to do it!

I try and avoid military ammo but when I cant I get a mate to do mine for me, he is into precision work so they all come uniformed!

I've found that the Wilson reamer does a very nice job and produces uniform case to case results. The RCBS swager while perhaps faster, did not make as nice a job. I'm glad I had the reamer for a batch of .308 Lapua I bought with the primers crimped in place.
