I bought a boatload of .223 ammo after reading some reviews that the Lake City brass is quite good for reloading. I also read that it has a primer crimp. Problem is, I don't think I'm looking at the right thing because I don't see a crimp. Is the crimp the little ridge all the way around the outside of the primer?

Second question, I have the RCBS primer pocket swager, but, should I expect the crimp to break a few decapping rods on my RCBS dies? Is there a better way to get the old primer out?

Thx folks

.. If there is a "Primer Pocket Crimp" the easiest way, I've found, is to remove it using an RCBS "Primer Pocket Swager. ..... If you try to seat a Prime,r without removing the "crimp" the chances are, that it will either be crushed or NOT fully seat. Either way, you will enhance your Vocabulary ! .... David K

excellent link Mikey. I was looking for an explanation of that.

P.S.....That pic isn't my wife, and I sure hope whoever's wife that is takes more photos!

I have done thousands of military brass. removing the primer is just as easy as boxer primers. then I just use my deburring tool to chamfer the pocket. no problems with crushed or damaged primers.
