Can anyone give me some details on this 9mm ammo. A buddy thought that it might have been originally for a sub-machinegun and as a result to powerful to safely use in a modern pistol. Any thoughts? I did put a few rounds through my NZ-75 and may have noticed a little more recoil but its hard to tell. I don't want to use this stuff in my new P226 until I get some more details. Also would the unopened boxes be of any value to a collector?

Canadian military, they use (used?) it in their Hi powers, and I had a few boxes that I ran thru mine no problems.

the 9mm ammo you have is or was made by IVI. as the other post said it was used in the Canadian issued Hi power pistols . it looks like it was made in 1977 but check the bottom of the cases and make sure it was'nt made during WW2 because if it was then it will have corrode your barrel .

and if I'm not mistaken it was made to hotter specs back during WW2 . if the case head is dated during WW2 don't shoot it in your Sig . as for collector value it's just worth what you'd pay for regular 9mm ammo and the primers have a crimp on them .

It was also used in the STEN and later the C1 Sterling copy, so it is a bit hotter than regular 9 mm. If you only have a couple of boxes then I would run it through my SIG, but I wouldn't put a case of it through.

I'll check the head stamp to verify the date. Even if its from 77 maybe I'll just try to trade it off for newer 9mm... if it has any value to collectors.

I cannot comment on whether this ammo is hotter than any other, but the CDN Mk 1 cartridge is still issued for use in the Browning pistol. It is not issued for use in the Sig carried by the military police. As I recall the Sig does not strike the primer hard enough to give reliable ignition.

I have a book somewhere that stated that the Inglis BHP was actually built tougher specifically to handle the hotter Sten loads.
So it may well be suitable for the Inglis BHP, but not for many other handguns.

BTW, anyone know if '77 dated IVI 9mm was ever properly surplussed out to civilian sales?
IDK, so I'm not accusing anyone, but I would sure hate to see stolen DND property showing up on CGN.

It may be a bit stouter than standard commercial ammo, but it should not be too hot for military/police issue 9mm pistols. It was made for the Canadian military/Nato for use in all the pistols and SMGs in Nato service. And BTW, I believe you will find that all Canadian WWII 9mm was produced with non-corrosive primers.

It seems to shoot fine in my Sig. Mind I don't have alot of it only a few boxes.
