Military trainers by Cooey, Mossberg??

Yes. The Cooey model 82 was developed for the Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Air Force cadets. There was a contract for 34,810 rifles. Regarding Mossberg, the only rifles used as trainers, as far as I know, were the model 44US and the 42Mb which was a lend lease rifle to Britain. Many people call any full wood Mossberg or 44 model "a military trainer" but they were not.

The people I work part time for own a Mossberg Lend Lease. When I noticed it, the poor thing was in bad shape. I took it home, found a stock for it, and Deaner cleaned it up, put the stock on it, and supplied a magazine. When I returned it, I made it clear that they had a rifle of interest and to keep it safe and sound from now on!

Thanks for the info. We are going to include a trainer class in our club military shoot and wanted to be sure they were military. What others are out there that could show up? I once owned a Mauser. Was the Ross Cadet used by the military?

You might get some Russian .22's show up but I don't know the exact models that might have been military trainers. Though uncommon in this country, there were Lampagyar military trainers. There are also converted Enfield rifles. Actually, there are several .22 trainers out there.

Remember that Mauser built the DSM-34. I had one many years ago, and it shot very nicely with the factory irons.

There was also the KKW.

Both are marked.

Another point is the Long Branch .22, which was the earlier wartime prototype for the C No. 7. Mine is a 1944. It shoots better than I can!

My favorite: Lee Enfield No2 Mk IV

There's something uniquely enjoyable in plinking with cadet trainers. Jerry303ca, great idea to organise a shoot with these 22's.

From time to time I see H&R Leathernecks and Springfield 1922 M2 pop up for sale. They were used by the US military as trainers but I don't think they were used by the Canadian military.

I have a Mossberg tube unit with full lumber and a magazine fed sportered Moss'y as well, marvelous rifles. If I'm shooting them frequently I can make them shine pretty good on gophers.

Pretty much every military used .22 trainers, usually several over the years. So the list of eligible rifles for a military surplus shooting competition will be very extensive.
