I am looking to put some optics on my XCR which I intend to use for varmint hunting, deer hunting, bear hunting as well as CQB/SR. Trying to find a scope to fill all these roles is not an easy task, but I think the Millet DMS might just do it. My question is has anyone used the DMS for hunting out to 300± yards? Can the DMS perform at these ranges? Let me know what you think.

P.S. Yes, I know its a cheap scope for an XCR, but it will fill the void while I save for high end optics :)

DMS can work out to those ranges for big game and for service rifle. Coyotes could be hard, it depends where you hunt and how long the shots are. Varmints are where high power really shines.

Slug..>I just bought one of the Millett DMS used...and it looks like new...its a 1x4 illuminated.
I have an outdoor site that I did iron sights at 280m and hold off. 5-8in group...with the DMS it
was surprisingly EASY to get the 10x10plate, and a 3in group. Glass was way clearer than I had expected and the unit is very tight and looks of high quality.

I am happy with the purchase....and would say it's worth it if you find them on sale.
I was shooting .223 cheap AE 55gr 1:7 twist rifle

Hope this helps!!

It would work, but a simple red dot would be better IMHO as there is a larger field of view and true 1x with no reticle to worry about.

If you are taking shots any further than 100 yards a more precise reticle would serve you better.

All comes down to purpose.

Ever shot a varmint at 300 yards with a 1x red dot?

WOW a varmint (groundhog rabbit rat!!) at 300 with 1X...IF someone can do that their eyes are way better than mine!!!.....

I had the plate painted flourescent orange and that helped ID the target....with and without the DMS

Man I must be getting old....

Slug it really comes down to what you want to do with your rifle...
I tried the Bushnell 1X red dot on an SR22 and at the 50yd range..the doughnut was a quarter of the "see and shoot" target.
Grouping was possible but you will just be placing the dot and hoping for repeat...
the 223 can reach WAY out farther than a 22LR so you may need more mag.

I've got an Eotech already, but I don't think I would want to use it for varmints at distance, or for big game past 100m out. I figure the DMS would be a nice solution for the need for a quick bush gun, as well as a rifle that I can confidently shoot bigger game at distance with.
