Millett 1-4x24 Designated Marksman Scope

I paid $300 for mine and it works good. I was looking for a cheaper 1-4x to play with for a few months to see if it was what I wanted. Right after I bought mine busnell came out with their "ar series" or what ever and it looks like a better buy than the millet

Then again I've heard that millet is owned by bushnell now so who knows. My only complaint is the brightness settings. 11 friggen settings and none work in daylight. Complete fail on the illumination.

One of the sponsers here was selling them for around $150 a few months back.
Ganederite, did Natchez ship it north no fuss?

I'm not sure that Bushnell owns Millet, Simmons yes. Bushnell would probably be a better buy, traditionally they used better glass than Millet or others in that price point, and generally the illuminated optics work.

Maybe I'm missing something but why do you need a scope to be illuminated in daylight? Isn't that the point of daylight? Being able to see the black lines inside the scope.

If we were talking about red dot sights (no internal marking) then yes, you need to see the dot but if the scope is marked then you look at the black lines and the red comes into play in shadows or in decreasing light.

That's how my Hilux works and I assume that's how every other 1x4 and up works as well. On max setting you don't see the red in daylight. The black horseshoe and little dot are perfectly visible.

Enlighten me please.

The targeting dot and donut are etched into the glass on the Millet I believe. You can run this scope without ilumination during the daytime. Iluminating the dot and a donut would be beneficial in low light situations or when quick target accusition is required.

That was the impression I was under. I was just curious why thearmyman204 was calling that a complete fail on ilumination.

I didn't think it was supposed to iluminate in sunlight. It comes into play when you site on a shaded target or as night approaches.

Thick bush. Lots of black and green even in bright sunlight. Very easy too lose your reticle in this situation. That's why I like to have a reticle illuminate even at high noon with no clouds in the sky

And yes I've tried a new battery, I've heard others complaining about this in milletts before.

I've tried other etched reticle scopes with illumination and they all have a setting that will work in the sun, even a cheap cabelas scope that actually turned out to be an awesome little scope.

Would just be nice to have the option, no?

I was looking at the Millets, as well as the Burris AR332 & 536. I'm probably going with one of the Burris options, but that price is making me second guess. I'd want a PEPR or equivalent style mount for it, and that could drive up the cost opposed to the AR332/536's integral mount (which I prefer)

If your looking at the 332 make sure you check out the new Vortex Spitfire 3X red dot. Lifetime warrenty cant be beat. The Spitfire has been getting good reveiws as well. I will be getting one of them myself very soon.

Thanks for the heads up! I did a comparative analysis of the two sights, and the Spitfire turned out to be the better option for me. I like the fact that you can remove the riser from the spitfire's mount, and since I'm putting it on an MR1 I don't need the extra height. I also found a pretty good deal on the spitfire at Wanstalls online store.

I've owned 2 Millett scopes (not the 1-4 though) and was not impressed with either. I think they are owned by Bushnell since when I needed to send the TRS-1 in for service I sent it to Bushnell and they sent me a brand new one back (I sold it immediately). All it cost me was shipping. So same warranty as Bushnell. The glass is about the same as the 4200 series Bushnell but I wasn't impressed and will never buy another one. There are better scopes for the money as far as I'm concerned.
I looked through a couple of the 1-4's and found the reticle to be much too thick for any kind of precision work. It seemed like the illumination was plenty bright in the ones I looked through but that was not out in the sun.
I also don't know why anyone would need the illumination for use in bright sunlight or regular daylight shooting, there would be no missing that reticle, but if using it in the bush it might come in handy. If the bush is so thick the light becomes low then the shots probably aren't going to be very long anyway. Sounds more like a ninja thing than a practical thing to me ;)

Not impressed with any of them. I'll take my Hi-Lux 1-4 over any Millett. You may save some coin going with a Millett or Bushnell but you would be much happier with your purchase if you spent some more money and bought quality glass. Optics is the one place where you really should spend as much as you can afford. The scope should cost as much as the rifle in most cases. I gave the Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16 a try when they first came out and was disappointed and sold it. So not even their high end stuff is great, especially considering it was around $700 at the time. I expected a lot more and should have just bought another Sightron.

The glass on a Millet is nowhere near a 4200 series Bushnell... Maybe Trophy or Banner....

I looked through the Millet, checked out the Bushnell AR line, but for the price range settled on the M223 from Nikon. Way better glass, it's super clear. Overall quality is much higher and even in a 1 inch compared to the other 2 that are 30mm, it's far far superior. And your rifle is 6 oz lighter. That's a big saving.

You must have looked through better 4200 series glass than me. I agree with the rest of your post though, Nikon has better glass, I would also look at Burris as well. I have a couple of their scopes and the glass is pretty good considering the price.
