It's between the Millett 4-16x50 and the Vortex 4-12x50. I'd like to use the scope as my primary scope and rotate it between all rifles. Eventually I'd like to shoot out to 1000 at the range. I'm not going to be hiking it through the woods. At least not that I'd expect right now. Both Millett and Vortex have lifetime warranties. Having an illuminated reticle doesn't bother me one way or the other.

Which would you opt for?

Which vortex model you looking at?

I cant coment on the millet, but I bought a vortex viper in 6.5-20x44 a few weeks ago and after 200 rounds im LOVIN it! best $500 ive ever spent on an optic!
I'd definitely recommend one to any shooter!

I have the Millet on my 700 SPS AAC-SD and she's holding up really well so far and holding zero. Lifetime warranty through Bushnell is a bonus. I bought mine from LeBaron when they had no-tax day. I don't have any experience with the Vortex scopes but everyone seems to like 'em.

I have a millet 6-25x56 lrs-1 on my Savage model 12 .308, and a Viper Vortex 6.5-20x44 on my weatherby vanguard varmint special in .223, and IMHO, the Vortex is a much better scope all in all. I really like, or actually prefer the reticle in the millet over the vortex, but the clarity in the vortex is hands down much better! I find the reticle in the vortex to be a tad bit too thick, but certainly not a deal breaker. It does work well, into low light varmint'ing situations.... ;-)

If you must choose between Millett and Vortex, the Vortex is the hands down winner IMO.

Had the millet, sold it and replaced it with the vortex viper 6.5-20x 50 with the fine crosshair reticle which is infinatly better considering that the reticle "mil-dot bar" on the millet is a joke to use compared to say my MOA2 on my sightron. If you wan't a "tacticle" reticle get a proven one like a traditional mil-dot, or a MOA etc. If you aren't planning on using any of the range finding etc then stick with a fine cross-hair your target will love you for it. Get the VORTEX

Skip both and go to Sightron SIII.
Clarity is almost as good as my Nightforce. The NF has a slightly wider field of view and is built like a tank but other than that it's hard to tell them apart when looking through them.
Sightron makes an excellent scope for the money. Call Jerry at Mystic Precision, excellent to deal with and quick shipping.
Both the Millet scopes I used to own had issues, One was replaced for free from Bushnell and the other I sold with an explanation of what I felt was it's weak points to the buyer.

And don't rotate a scope through a bunch of rifles. Zero it and leave it on one. You will need to re-zero every time you move it to a new rifle and it will be a huge pain in the ass. Every rifle deserves it's own scope. Buy a really good scope for your best and longest range rifle and then put cheap scopes on the rest and upgrade one at a time as you can afford to.
