So I have a Savage model 10TR .308 that I need a scope for but don't want to spend a bunch of money on. Has anyone had hands on with the Millett TRS-1 4-16 x 50 and the LRS 16-25 x 56. Perhaps you could comment on fit, finish, performance and the pros and cons of both scopes. Thanks

I have the LRS. I like it -but it is effin' HUGE - made even more massive with the sunshade on it. The build quality is great, feels like you could use it as a weapon in a pinch. The turrets are nice, a tad bit mushy if you forget to undo the tightening knob to lock it into place. The rings are also quite high, which I haven't found to be a big problem yet. Overall I like it, I like the look, build and price point - it won't break the bank and for me, does the job.

Mounted on my Remington 700:

I had a 4-16 mounted to nearly the exact same rifle above. I thought the optics were cloudy. No where even close in comparison to the vortex viper 6.5-20 i recently bought. The crosshair was also fairly thick compared to the viper. Obviously you must be on a bit of a budget as I would recommend a sightron 8-32 the most. I have one of those mounted on a 308 and don't regret spending the $900 one bit for that kind of value. The resale value isn't very good either as its comparable to the falcon series of scopes so you will be all but giving it away when you decide to upgrade and sell it. I would go by the addage of buy once, cry once. And if you aren't opposed to buying used, there are lots of nice scopes on the EE right now that would be way better for the money. The rings above "burris extreme tacticals" are excellent value though, I would highly recommnd those.

If you start with a Sightron Slll, you are likely not to changed it for years, as i think it is one of the best scope on the market... Period... JP.

I had the Millett LRS. Loved it. But it is quite large, and the stock rings that come with it are pretty big but maneagable. Optics on par or better than my Vortex Viper 6.5-20.
My 0.02

Now if I could only weasel some cash outta my wife for a Trijicon Accupoint TR23 5-20...... Ohhhhh yeah!

When dealing with optics always try to get the best scope you can on your budget, not the most magnification. I have seen many cheap scopes that have high magnification and aren't worth a damn. It is better to see clearly at 10x zoom then have a blurry image at 16x zoom. I went with a Bushnell elite tactical 10x40 for that very reason. It is a fixed 10 power scope but it is very clear, the clearest I have used at its price point.
