Today was the last ORA Vintage shoot of the season. Perfect weather and very high scores. We had a great day.
Several guys/rifles impressed me.
We were split into pairs. One shot while the other marked the targets. The fellow I marked for fired his sighting shots in 3 shot groups. (We had 10 minutes of unlimited sighters.) Here are his first 3 shots at 100 yards:
Good group for an SKS. This was the first time he shot it since installing a new scope mount. It looks solid.
He proceeded to win the first match, a deliberate fire at 100 yards - standing. There were some much better rifles on the line, but not every one can shoot 10 well-aimed shots from the standing position.
There was the usual variety of rifles on the line: 3 SKS, 3 Swiss Green Classics, a K31, a SVT sniper, a #4 with a Weaver K4, 2 Ar-15s, a Norinco M14 (bone stock), a new Aussie #4 clone, a black powder rifle that looked to be something like a hi-wall in 45-70, and a Savage 243.
We shot 90 rounds on score (9 matches -3 each at 100, 200 & 300 yards). The scores were high, with the 100 standing events and the movers at all distances helping spread out the range of scores.
The Swiss Classic Green rifles were very impressive. But I would expect a $3,000 rifle to shoot well. The SKS and stock M305 (M14) impressed me in terms of accuracy-fun per dollar.
One of the AR-15s was a new one that blew the muzzle brake in half the day before. I suspect the new configuration really stopped muzzle jump....
Here we are - all having fun.
