milsurp ammo-dow did he get this?!

Canada only uses a small portion of the ammo that IVI produces. I think that the US Army buys the largest amount of ammo from them. IVI has a deal not to sell to civi buyers in Canada, but what ever happens outside of Canada is beyond IVI's control.

There was a couple of lots that were sold off in the mid 90s...failed to meet specs. Sold on the US Market, and a bunch got back up north too.

That said, it was only 5.56mm, and I believe mid 90's production...

Yup...this is old. Judging by the last picture, it was manufactured in 85. Looks in nice condition though.

They should return the bandoleers to use; it would save me from jamming boxes in every bit of free space I have.

This started back in Nam, when Victor Charlie's lunch was made from fire-sale priced Soviet-aid Canadian flour, and the bullets that were shot at him were made by IVI. Canadian fiscal benefits from the Viet-Nam War amounted to about 300 mill a yeat at that time: about the same as the turnover in the hairdressing industry at that time.

LOTS of IVI stuff is exported, as the man pointed out...... and it's been going on for at least 40 years.

That said, Dominion also made ammo for foreign sales. I have a box of military loads (Mark VII Ball) that were made for export to Newfoundland: commercial headstamp, military loading. Neat stuff!

hmm, now i know what the the little cross in a circle means. its NATO approval.
and the american eagle .223 i have has it on the headstamp

Not current CF issue anyways, it doesn't come in bandoleers any more.

Well, we're both wrong. :) I just finished up a week long live fire exercise and ever single issue of 5.56 ammo issued to me came in a bandoleer. Exactly like the picture. 4 boxes of 30 rounds plus a ten round stripper loaded into a mag charger. New-ish ammo too, some of it from within the past few years.

Not sure where it came from, as every other time I've fired - blank or live- its always been packed into cardboard boxes and then into ammo tins.

Oh well. I should have snagged a bandoleer or two for my own use. Next time I guess. :p
