Nanaimo Fish and Game club annual Turkey shoot
In order to drum up some business for our club fund raiser Turkey Shoot and provide an arena for Milsurp collectors to use our treasured collectables we have decided to run a special class for Milsurp rifles at this years event. In reality it would be fair to say that Milsurp rifles have taken the bulk of the turkeys home over the last few years in the 100yd event so in a way this is nothing new. However now you will be competing against only Milsurp rifles. Here is your opportunity your prove your favorite country’s rifle is better than all others. In the past M1 Garands and Lee Enfields have done very well.
So dust off that safe queen and get it zeroed for 100yds and come win yourself a turkey! There’s a winner every time!
What kind of rifles qualify:
Any Military surplus rifle in it's original service caliber or later re-chambered or re-barreled to a different military caliber well still in service and with it's
original sights qualifies. Rifles that have been sporterized by no more than having there furniture cut down will also qualify. No other exceptions (e.g. cut barrels, match sights etc.). Unfortunately we won't be able to run a class for Sniper rifles unless enough people to run a relay are able to attend in which case they will shoot at 200yds. Copies of military rifles do not qualify (e.g. M1A/M305, SKS’s marked Norinco etc.)
If enough people with Sniper rifles or Match modified rifles show we will run classes for them as well.
Course of fire:
Shooting is done at 100yds.
Competitors shoot in groups of 6 people per relay.
Targets are shot left to right one shot at a time.
All shooting is done standing, unsupported and without slings.
Shooters must hit and knock the target (Ram silhouette) off of the stand to advance to the next round.
The last person to score a hit in that group of 6 wins the turkey.
If no shooters score a hit (6 way tie for last place) all shooters shoot again.
Permitted ammunition:
All Military surplus ball, hunting and hand loaded ammo is suitable. Armor piercing and tracer rounds are not acceptable.
As you can tell this isn’t a tactical style match but rather a pure marksmanship trial. If this proves popular enough I would like to see this become an annual event and in time perhaps we can expand it to include other types of Milsup rifles. The turkey shoot will be held from 10:00am till dusk on Dec. 13th and 14th this year with the Milsurp events taking place between 11:00 and 1:30 or until all shooters have had a try on both days. We will be holding regular events during this time frame as well and as I said before, Milsurp rifles will qualify for the regular events as well and invariably do very well so if to few shooters are able to attend they will be welcomed it the regular class.
