Milsurp Part Price Check - Lee Enfield No4 Mk1 - Complete Boltheads

#1, $25 maybe? Common and not often needed.

#3, sought-after item. Seen some priced between $50 and $100 (preposterous, i know)

I will agree with Lou and SC

the No1 is run of the mill. Now the No3 is going to be a hot seller.

I keep a small selection of bolts and bolt heads and I only have 1 No3 but 4 or 5 No1.

I made a large purchase of Enfield parts, and I ended up with 40 of the nos 1, 2 and 3, but no zeros. Not a real problem, since every rifle pretty much comes with a zero or a one.

If complete means with extractor and spring, then the cost grows. Most bolt heads that are offered for sale have been stripped... As stated, the No 3 head commands a premium say ~ 80$. I picked up a No4 Mk1 last year (attic find in a cottage), that had a No 4 bolt head. I had to look at it closely, and finally measure it to be sure. I got my headspace gages out and found that the rifle wouldnt close on a go, but would do so with a No 2 bolt head. The rifle had been set up for target shooting, I suspect that someone had decided to tighten the headspace for accuracy purposes...

I have always been under the impression that only #0, #1, #2 and #3 ever existed and that the specs given to their manufacturers were:

No 0 = 0.629" +0 / -0.002"
No 1 = 0.632" +0 / -0.002"
No 2 = 0.635" +0 / -0.002"
No 3 = 0.638" +0 / -0.002"

Having a #4, it would be a great service to post a pic and its specs.

That said, thanks guys - both bolt heads are "complete" (have spring and extractor) and I understand that the usefulness of the #1 would be for its parts, such as for someone assembling a bolt from parts, or for repairs.
