Milsurp Prices Circa 1963

they wanted 250.00 for the SKS , thats close to todays price's

Don't forget about inflation, in today's dollars that's about $1760 :S

It makes sense though, buying a Soviet rifle during the cold war, and just imagine buying ammo for it:S.

I wonder where they found the SKSs in 1963.

Referring to 7.62x54mm as "7.62mm Marxist" is especially comical, considering that the calibre, along with the Mosin Nagant rifle, was originally adopted by Tsarist government of Russia.

I wonder where they found the SKSs in 1963.

I'm thinking they had to come out of brush war in Africa.

More to the point, where are you going to get 7.62 Russian short ammo in 1963 ?

If I remember correctly, it didn't really start coming in until the height of the Vietnam War with all the G.I. bring backs, and then from Finland in the 1970's I believe.

It was necessary to make cartridges by reforming 6.5x52MC or 6.5x54MS cases. The SKS was a rather rare and uncommon rifle for many years, when they were still standard issue.

In the late 70s, SKS were still uncommon in Canada. My first was a mismatched M21 marked Type 56 out of the states and it still cost $350.00 then.

The only 7.62x39 ammo going at the time was Lapua (and expensive).
