I am an aspiring reloader I was wondering where milsurp reloaders go to get their brass, bullets etc. since some military calibres can be tough to find. I am mostly concerned on where I can find spare brass and bullets for 8mm Mauser, 7.62x54 and 6.5x55. I have access to commercial rounds in those calibres but I like the money saving aspects of reloading.

Not sure where you can get 7.62X54R but I am sure someone will pipe in sooner or later. For the 6.5X55 and 8mm Mauser brass Wholesale Sports has it(at least on their web page). There are also lots of 6.5 and 8mm bullets available.

Hirshprecision.com sells 7.62 x 53r Lapau brass. Its not cheap, they are 71.00 per hundred. Its the exact same as 7.62 x 54. The Russians called it 54r and the Fins 53r. You are not going to find bulk brass in Winchester or Remington. The Igman brass is terrible for reloading, did it once, never again.

You need to use 303 bullets for the 7.62 x 54 since the bore size should be running around .311. I used 150 gr Hornady spire points and they worked well.

8mm uses standard .323 bullets

I use Igman in 7.62x54 & have had good results so far. For cheaper bulk brass try bc redneck, they have all the hard to find calbers in stock. I will have to try some Lapua components when i find a gun that deserves it. They make the best looking brass I have ever seen.

All the primer pockets were so tight that it was extremely difficult to prime the brass, felt like the primers would crush. Took about 3 times the pressure as compared to Winchester, Remington or Norma brass that I have used in different calibers. Compared to the others, I found it poor quality.....Its the worst brass I have ever used.

I have Norma brass that I am on my 7th load in my Weatherby's which I really like with no problems... I am sure Lapua is just as good.
