My RPAL has been issued and is on the way - time for some shopping!

I've been looking into Milsurp rifles and have noticed that the ones listed as "Snipers" are about twice the price of others. Why is this?

Only twice the price? Bargains!
Try pricing a Long Branch 4T, or a K98K sniper.
The reasons? Demand. Scarcity.
The least expensive representative sniper rifles are the recently assembled M91/30 Mosin Nagants. Repro scopes and mounts, fine shooters.

"...Demand. Scarcity..." Yep. Far fewer sniper variants were built. Far more than twice the price too. Depending on the rifle and in some cases, what comes with it. Not all sniper rifles were issued in a box like No. 4 Mk I T's were.
There are a lot of fakes out there as well. Scoping any milsurp, even with a vintage scope, doesn't make it a sniper variant.
Mind you, you don't need an RPAL for one.

Just keep in mind. The "Sniper" designation is for the user of the rifle. Training and skill makes him/her thus. The rifle is usually a modified for higher accurracy unit but needs a skilled person to make it work to its capabilities. Even though I'm a pretty good shot, putting me behind a sniper quality rifle will NOT make me one.

"...The "Sniper" designation is for the user of the rifle..." Yep, most assuredly not just the rifle. Sniper training is, by far, more than just shooting. Fieldcraft/not being seen is far more important. They can disappear on a plain rock. To be seen is to die.
"...putting me behind a sniper quality rifle..." Pity we're not closer together. Have a 1903A4 with a 2.5 to 8 Scopechief, I wouldn't think twice about letting you or nithburg shoot it. Original scopes were scarce and pricey when I bought it. It's really not any better than a good target rifle with match grade ammo though. Must admit that it isn't the same thing.
