hey there,,can anyone tell me what the difference is between a 180 series and the newer series of mini 14's is and why the stocks off a newer model wont fit the 180's,,is it just a minor difference that can be adjusted at home or are they totally different?thanks..

180s are quite different. The gas block, bolt slide, hold open are not the same. Consequently, interchanging or adapting stocks is just not practical.

thanks for the advice,i didnt realize they were that different ,maybe i will just leave it the way it came and stuff it in the cabinet with the other old technology..thanks again..

Ruger Mini 14 180 Series

The Ruger Mini 14 180 Series has a wood forestock and I think the stock is different as stated earlier. There isn't a mount made for the 180. I had a mint one last year and I sold it but I really like the wooden forestock, it reminds me of an M1 rifle. The twist is something like 1/14". If you are looking for accuracy I would buy anything above series 187. The barrel twist changed three times from series 180 to 187.
