Does any one know or have a link to anything relating to the accuracy difference between the two. I have a newer mini-14 a brobee:) damn fine bush gun. I was looking at a target mini in 223. Just curious to know if there is any real huge difference in acuracy. I will be mostly shooting 55gr and 62 grain ammo. I have a bolt action remington policde 223 which works well for*me. I just seem to like a semi action better. Thanks for your input, Safe shhooting and Happy Holidays.

The 580 series is a good gun. I've had mine for three years now and it has become my favorite out of my whole collection.

the "target" mini is more of a joke then anything. the "heavy" barrel ends at the gas block, from there back is the same size as any other mini. Ive had my 581 for almost a year now and am impressed with how it shoots.

the funky barrel "harmonic dampener" on the end of the mini-14 target is a real pain in the ass to set properly for a given load and will only really help that load and I find the device needs a generous portion of locktite so the set screws don't back off and let the whole thing move. A good old bolt gun will shot more accurately with much less headaches.

The mini is not a target rifle if you have one that is giving you 2 inch group, it is a keeper but they are so reliable... JP.

Anytime you mention the mini14 target rifle you will get this. We had a thread here a few years ago after the target model came out. Guys were getting very good groups using 70+ grain handloads. As soon as someone hears mini14 target they just think mini14.

The one thing you will need to do is get the trigger done. Stock the trigger sucks. Once it's been made decent it will make the rifle a lot easier to shoot. Some people also add the adjustable gas block.

One last thing the laminate thumbhole stock version is sturdier than the hogue stocked version. The hogue stock has flex. Although I do like the looks and how it handles. The laminate one is very stable and nice to shoot with.

Yes they will shoot sub moa with match ammo. I've seen them shoot sub moa with 55PMC as well. That's without adjusting the harmonic dampener.

52grain Bergers I have had no problems with either of my Mini's. My Target model has taken MANY coyotes and over 80% of which are running shots, the heavy barrel makes it so smooth to swing while leading a running dog, and no its not always the first shot but there is nothing like a quick follow up shot. Long Live The Mini-14!!

wow thats just a awful grouping ;) min of barn indeed :p

I have owned a couple newer mini14s, shot all sorts of ammo through them, i'd say they averaged 2MOA, thsi was without any trigger tuning or accu-strut, i've had 2 ftf over the course of 3-4000 rounds...YMMV

I have one on the newer mini-14 groups ok for me to shoot gophers. gophers I want to try a target mini and see what it will do out to 400meters. I got a bunch of 50grn varmit gernades and a lot of 62 grn rounds to try.

If you're wanting to shoot out past 400 I would opt for a better bullet then the 50gr Varmint grenades. Heavier bullets would be my choice.
