Hey Guys. I'm thinking about getting a mini 14 Target model later in the year and I'm thinking I'd like to put a Vortex spitfire 1x prisim scope on it. I understand that the mini14 now comes with a picatiny rail as well as scope rings. I can't seem to find any photos which show where that rail mounts. Does any one know if this combo will work.

The reason I like the prisim scope vs a red dot or any other scope is that I really like open sights but I'm near sighted with an astigmatism. That I found with my Barska red dot doesn't make a great combination and I can use that sight without my glasses. I found that the prisim scope correct my vision so I don't need my glasses and the reticle is sharp.

I also plan to put a scope on the gun from time to time too. Anyone have this setup? Anyone have any thoughts or comments?

If you want the spitfire I would look at one now. everybody seems to have them on sale for $299. Dont no why? This will tick off some guys on EE trying to sell their used ones.

I'm pretty sure it's because they have been discontinued and replaced with the yet to be released spitfire AR. And yeah I'm considering it because the 299 price. But maybe the strike eagle is something I should consider.

Decent scopes but not what the Target model is set up for.
I would look at a variable scope or a fixed 6X for it.
What are you planning on using the rifle for,the Target model is not a CQB type like the Ranch or other versions are. It is what the name implies and with a 1x dot you will not enjoy the full potential of the gun.

What is a QCB? I know that the target model is for target shooting which is what I'm planning to use it for. I will eventually get a 4-16x or something like that. But I kind of want the equivalent of open sights but my eye sight isn't that good due to astigmatism. The prisim scope seems like a good option for that.

That all being said the strike eagle 1-6x seems like good option too as I then may not need to replace it later.

CQB is the type of shooting you do with ARs,generally under 100 yds most 50 and closer, quick targer aquistion etc suited yo light rifles and low powered optics.
I have the Mini target with a Nikon 3-9 AR scope on it.
On my Ranch I just have the irons for now.
The 1-6 power you are thinking of now is pretty good.

I ended up getting the target model and put a Nikon prostaff 5 4-12 on it. I tried at first using the ruger rings, but something with them is off and there wasn't enough elevation adjustment to sight it in at 100m. I switched to the picatinny rail and used some grand slam rings that I had kicking around. Worked better. Man does that rifle throw the brass around though. Makes it hard to collect my brass after a range day for reloading.

Chasing brass is a real PITA. Might consider getting a brass catcher like the one I have -
