i have a 182 series mini 14 that has developed an ejection problem.
it used to send spent casings a good 12 feet & now it drops them at my feet.
cycling with dummy cartridges..pull the action rearward slowly & it flys across the room
pull the action briskly & it either drops at my feet or hangs up ontop of the magazine.
i've stripped & cleaned the bolt (little brass shavings fell out) & reassembled.
same issue..
any suggestions?

Slowly cycling it and having it function properly proves the extractor is working correctly. Well done.
It happen with all ammo? Tiny bits of brass in a semi's bolt isn't unusual. However, since the ejection is bad with a quick pull, I'd be changing the ejector spring first.
You do a complete cleaning, paying close attention to the gas system too?
Exploded drawing is here if you don't have a manual. No W's. stevespages.com/ipb-ruger-mini14.html

thank you Sunray...great info.
firing off an email to 'snapshot' in regards to ejector as well as bolt stop assembly(acts as an ejector too as i understand it) & cover plate

(Assuming you see no visible wear or damage to the extractor)
Just out of ####s and giggles pop a mag in, chamber a round them remove the mag and then cycle the rifle hard. I want to eliminate the mag from the equation. Have you cleaned the rifle recently? If its not clean, id give it a good thorough clean being its a 180 series and possibly seen a lot of rounds (especially the chamber!) and then lube the action just like an m14. If you have cleaned it recently check that the oprod isnt dragging against the stock. Im not sure this is the case on a 180 series Mini but on a Ranch it may drag against the stock if you have the oprod spring guide installed upside down (the rod that holds the oprod spring in place that looks like the mouth piece on a recorder). If im leaning to one thing though I would say rough and dirty (just the way your mother likes it Trebek) chamber.

A good thorough cleaning and lube was step one
When I started having the problems.
Yes... It's seen about a thousand rounds.
I scrubbed both the chamber and gas assembly.
I haven't tried it without a magazine yet
I'll let you know... Thx for the tip

no change with or without magazine..or different mags for that matter.
have a new parts kit on order for the bolt & ejector assembly.
hopefully this cures it

Mini 14 Maxi ejection

Normal for mini 14's, don't park in the ejection path or your car will be dented big time !
Several gas pistons are available to tune for the ammo, and prevent brass flying up to 40 ft.
There is also a black plastic clip on brass catcher box that works very well, and prevents serious head injury to the shooter at the bench beside you !

parts arrived yesterday..replaced bolt ejector & spring as well as extractor, spring & pin.
everything works as it should again.
thankfully a cheap & easy fix for my old warhorse
