Mini 14 target

Ruger Mini Target

Not sure where you are but I have seen them in WSS and at the Powder Keg- both in Kamloops. There have been a couple for sale on this website as well.

I know Russell's in calgary has some and try Barton's Big Counrty in Grande Prairie. I just baught one from Russells a month ago. Before that I was talking to the guys at Bartons they had one used and more coming in.

Save your bucks and buy the ranch gun. Neither gun impressed me with their accuracy. We have a ranch gun ... for the ranch, and it serves its purpose fine. It was the only non-restricted semi we could find in 223 and with open sights.

I would take a XCR or a Green Classic any day time or year over any ruger product that shoot's a 223 thats a semi-auto! I owned one and that is the key word owned. This brick was so god damm heavy that the only thing that was fun about it was shooting from a bench. Although the harmonic dampener was fun to play around with it defenetly isn't worth the thime or money.

Yes, but those are twice the price at least!! If we are taking semi's then there are ALOT I would take over a Mini-14, but none of them are under $2000 either, so what's the point? I think we should be looking at an apples to apples comparison - starting with cost!

I baught the target mini 14, it hates cheap ammo. I was using pmc bronze econo stuff, i was hard to keep it under 6 to 10 inch groups at 100. Switched to hornady 40 and 55gr vmax. Groups under 2 inch now. the only errors now are me and trigger pull.

I got my mini-14 Target to shoot 68 HPBT Hornady under MOA at 100 and 200 m without major tweaking. That includes under 0.5 MOA groups often enough. Before it was on average 2 MOA, same reloads.

All it took is Devcon bedding the the stock (Hogue) and modification to the gas system (reduced bushing, ~0.045 or so, to save brass from abuse). Mostly bedding, as usual. ;)

The gun is heavy as a full-size M14. As much as I don't like the look and weight of the dampener, it DOES work well. So I can accurately shoot pretty much any of my 223 reloads with Mini with minor field adjustment. Not so with other guns...

Can I shoot better with my bolt Tikka? Sure, most of the time!
..........................with my other semi's? Hell NO! ... price-wise it's not even funny! ;)

What I'd like now is to accurize the regular 580 Series Range just to compare....

"...it hates cheap ammo..." Why would you use cheap ammo in a $1,000 target rifle? It's like using regular gas in a Ferrari.
Epp's did drop the price for the rifles they had. Suspect a grand was too much money for most people.

"Why use cheap ammo...?" Because it's CHEAP!!! Crawling around on my hands and knees looking for used brass in the tall grass is not my idea of fun...and not all cheap ammo shoots like s**t. My SwissArms shoots the RUAG stuff great, but is not so hot with PMC or Wolff crap. My buddy's Mini-14 Target is not bad with anything, but shoots the old Winchester white box stuff within about 1/4-inch of my Swiss/RUAG. So his gun costs less than a third of what mine did, his ammo is like half the price, and the results are essentially the same.

I hate him.
