Just purchased a Mini 14 and was thinking about putting a Red Dot on it. I have no experience with them so looking for some opinions. Gun will be used mainly for plinking and coyotes under 200yds. Don't want to break the bank. Will a red dot or something similar work or am I better with a 3-9 scope?

Red dots work great for close range but if your going to start hunting animals your going to want proper shot placement to drop them- go with a scope with at least 3x9
 
Yep, a scope at 100+ yrds is what Id use. A trs-25 is awesome but at 100yds+ the dot covers too much of the target.
IMO spend the money and buy a good scope. Then youll only do it once. Alot of people cheap out and buy two or more scopes because either they break or dont do the job. So ya lesson learned the hard way by me. Buy good stuff and youll only have to buy once.
