I'm just curious ,I just purchased a new mini 14 and on the heel every one I've ever seen says cal 223. The one I got says. 5.56 NATO. Which is pretty much the same but does any one else have 5.56 NATO stamped on the heel of there's ,let me know

From what I've been able to find they all have 5.56 chambers which surely helps their reliability and hurts accuracy to some degree or another. There are many other factors that affect the accuracy of a rifle, most of which were addressed with the 580 series. Its commonplace to mark anything even remotely tactical as 5.56 rather than .223 on todays market. How does yours shoot?

I have the mini 14 tactical ranch rifle it's the worst I ever seen does not shoot good at all its up to the left down to the right it's going to be sold I put a ziess scope on it didn't do any thing

Despite the nonsense you see on the Internet, .223 Rem and 5.56 NATO are the same thing.
"...put a Ziess scope on it..." That a Chinese knock off? snicker. Even a Zeiss scope won't fix accuracy on any rifle. Scopes don't do that. They just let you see the target better. If the rifle doesn't shoot well with irons, you'll just have an inaccurate rifle with an expensive sight. And Mini-14's are well known to be over-priced and inaccurate, but fun to shoot.
"...Feed back score of zero..." Means nothing.
"...Thanks for defending me..." You don't need defending.

I'll check the two I have in my safe tonight to see if they're stamped .223 or 556...

I've owned a pile of mini 14s and two mini 30s. The two I have now shoot just as well as my tavor. The mini 14 isn't a bench rifle, it was designed as a tool and works very well.

Oh well, I'm off to put in screws with a hammer now.

I have only shot one mini-14 many moons/decades ago. It was during an open house public shoot the club I belonged to at the time put on to show off our newly built and approved range. One of the bigger talking members (like me lol ) was holding forth about the mini-14 he had ( and that I was shooting as he spoke) which he said was cool but wouldn't shoot anything smaller than a 2 inch group at 100 yards. My spotter looked up and said to him "maybe with you shooting but Peter just put 3 inside an inch" to general laughter from the membership. If I could have afforded it I would have bought the gun from him as I thought it was a nice handy little piece.

I keep asking but nobody will tell me what their 580 series will do at 100 yds. My 188 printed 5-6" 3 shot groups at 100 yds before bedding and trigger work! This was with a cool rifle after a thorough cleaning and firing several groups to foul the bore and sight in the scope. After bedding and polishing the trigger, groups shrank to around 3". I've made a .055" gas bushing and might make a barrel stabilizer for it. Maybe it can do sub 2" which would be acceptable to me.

Snip And Mini-14's are well known to be over-priced and inaccurate, but fun to shoot.

The reason that they are "well known to be inaccurate" is because people like you keep spreading that rumor all over when it is not necessarily true! And I'm still waiting for your suggestion as to what might be a better American made, non restricted, semi auto 223 that goes bang every time you pull the trigger. And don't forget to keep the price under $1000 too.:)

My 581 series Mini-14 has "Cal .223" printed on it. At 100 yards, I typically achieve between 1.8 & 2.5 MOA. The type & weight of the ammunition does make a difference. I rarely use it as my XCR-L is way more fun and a bit more accurate but I won't sell it because as a SHTF backup rifle, it is extremely reliable.

just because its one of the only ones available doesn't mean its okay to be an inaccurate rifle. like i said earlier i have shot 2 that were both very inaccurate and so have lots of people i know, so the reason they are "well known to be inaccurate" is because many people have had a bad experience. from what i understand its a hit or miss with the mini 14 because many people have also had a very positive experience with the it.

Thanks for the feedback, that's the kind of info I've been looking for. Mine has a 1 in 7" twist and seems to print similar groups with 55 gr vmax and 75 gr bthp. The vmax are flat based so that may be why they do so well.

I have owned at least half dozen Mini 14's and 30's. A 580 series I had would consistently shoot about 3" at 100. It was my goto coyote gun and ultra reliable. Someone wanted it more than I did and I sold it. I had a 184 version that shot an honest 1.5 MOA with some very minor accuracy mods. It was an amazing gun too with nary a jam in about 20+ years of shooting it. The rest though … some were 8-12 MOA and got considerably worse when the barrel got warm. I never saw one jam though. They were all handy guns, just not bench rifles. Very much working tools.

the one i picked up last year is a 582 and its labeled .223

as for how it shoots, my AR's will come and go but this gun will be with me till the day i die and then my kids can fight over it, THATS how good and accurate it shoots.
i didnt know anyone up where i am that had a mini 14.
now that ive been shooting mine at the range and letting other people shoot it i know of at least a dozen people up here that have them.
i have never heard a complaint about how they shoot.
when i shoot one that dosnt hit where im aiming ill come back and let ya know.
