Mini Book Review: "The Ultimate Sniper" by Maj. John Plaster

I just finished reading "The Ultimate Sniper" (updated and expanded version) by Maj. John Plaster. I'm a newbie to precision rifle and found tons of useful info on ballistics, gear, tactics, etc.

It was very easy reading with lots of pictures, diagrams and tables. I'm sure I'll make use of it as a reference in the years to come. Overall a very enjoyable read! :)

I picked mine up at Seals Action Gear. You can see more details about the book at:

P.S. It turns out is was Maj. Plaster who was responsible for co-designing the Choate Ultimate Sniper stock - blame him if you think it's ugly! ;)

I found the first edition to be a wealth of knowledge and the second edition was that much better. I find myself going back to those books a lot, as well as Mike Lau's book for good pointers. Great reading.

Back around 2000ish, Skullboy sent me a video, "The Ultimate Sniper" by said Maj. Plaster.

I just got a super laugh when he was teaching his student to shoot under stress of: yelling, screaming, in-yer-face harrassment, short of ##### slapping the rookie, everything under the sun. Kinda reminded me of my Battle School days, but it was not that krazy.

I found Maj Plaster's information just super if not entertaining. Hey, Skullboy!! Remember that video you sent me ?

do you still have that vid?
DVD or VHS?

Mike Lau's book is called "THE POLICE AND MILITARY SNIPER"! Mike R. Lau owns Texas Brigade Armory, he builds some very heavy duty rifles and his book is great. Hungry is right about Plasters Video, it is good and Plater is quite a character to watch. Another set of "SNIPER" related books that in my opinion are hands down the best, are from Iron Brigade Armory, the "DEATH FROM AFAR" series of books are out of this world. I have most of the sniper and related books out there and these are bar none the best. Two other books they wrote are "THE ONE SHOT BROTHERHOOD" and "WHITE FEATHER", no better reading as far as I am concerned.

Where would I be able to buy one???
I went to Chapters no copies in GTA  any other book stores to check out other than online???

I know this is a little late comming but if its shooting books you want?:

www.amazon.ca

They've been delivering books (free of shipping costs) to my door for years. They carried shooting related books during all those years when Chapped Turds wouldn't provide such reading out of purely righteous left wing nancyness!
