One of my range mates showed up last night at BRRC with a new toy. He was the proud new owner of a Savage Mark II BV, .22rf with AccuTrigger(TM). I had a chance to fire a mag though it, here are my first impressions:

- its a neat little carbine, nicely "figured" brown laminate stock, hard plastic buttpad, deeply blued finish metal. Seemed heavier than the stated 6.5lbs.

- overall fit and finish were very good.

- the barrel is 20-ish inch "mid-weight" target (bigger than 0.5", smaller than 0.925" diameter) with a recessed crown.

- stock was well executed, pointed and shouldered well, monte-carlo comb was usable and lenght of pull was about right for me.

- 10-rd mags were a surprise.....box style bananna clip. Lots of sharp edges. I've seen better quality and finish on Norinco mags.

- bolt was stiff, but this rifle was new, it should settle down and smooth out after a brick or two.

- accutrigger was a joy to shoot, very crisp, no creep, light weight. it was set for its lightest setting. we didn't have a scale, so we estimated it at 2.5-3lbs.

Didn't have a chance to bench it and shoot groups, but I was able to make penny sized clusters at 20yrds off-hand with an assortment of non-target rimfire ammo. Bushnell 5-15x36 AO scope on Burris Sig-zee rings with Weaver-style bases.

Overall impression? For under $350 (tax in), this rifle is going to give the CZ452 American some serious competition.

The CZ 452 American has a standard weight barrel. A better comparision would be the Brno CZ 452 Varmint vs the Savage MrkII BV AT.

I'd love to see someone that's qualified do an unbiased accuracy comparison between those 2 guns. ;)

K98, you're probably right. I chose the CZ 452 American as a reference due to similarities in barrel profile and weight. Trueth be told, I think the new AccuTrigger Savage rimfires are going to give the entire CZ452 line a run for the money. Time will tell, but my (admittedly short) first exposure to the Savage line was pretty possitive and they appear to be priced aggressively.
