I was watching vids on YouTube's "Capandball" channel. He was shooting a Hawken .50 cal with conicals. He had some sort of hand held lubricator to squirt a soft lube into the bullet's grooves by pushing the bullet into the opening of this device. Anyone here ever see something like this or is this a European only thing. The shooter is Hungarian.

I believe that Marstar had some lubricant applicators like you described at some point in time. You may want to check with them.

I believe Thompson Center made such a gizmo for lubing with Bore Butter. The tube screwed into the side and the conical was pushed through a hole 90 degrees to it. That was in the 90's. I didn't use Bore Butter so I didn't buy one.
I just looked and don't see it listed on their site. Most folks use inlines with sabots these days so the demand wouldn't be there.

Make a thick compound of your favourite BP lube and put it in a squeeze bottle.

Squirt a dab of it in the base of your Minies - done.

Balázs is a Euro dealer for Pedersoli so his tool is likely the same as offered by that company. I haven't seen them available off the shelf in Canada but if you talk to a Pedersoli dealer like Marstar or Shooter's Choice Gunroom or Bilozir they should be able to bring in smaller stuff like that.

Have you tried SPG? That might not be a bad way to go. Not convinced you will find a sizing die for the 54 either though.

Depending on what you are using for lube it might not be difficult to rig something up. Mini grease gun threaded into the side of a plastic or metal tube polished to the right diameter and a rod on the end to set insertion depth and ejection. Just a couple short tubes the right diameter to hold a few pre lubed bullets.
Probably lots of better ideas out there.

Yes, I have two, one is loaded with SPG and the other with Jake's hard lube. So, I would need one for the .50 (.501") and one for the .54 (.540 or 541")
Thanks everyone!

Quick check at Buffalo Arms Co they have the .501 but the larger one is out of stock,
find a smaller more common die and have a machinist bore it out to the right size and make a sizer
KalTool here in Winnipeg could make you almost anything they make great moulds as well.

Spoke with Dennis at Shooter's Den here in Sudbury. He will have a .501 here Friday. I have access to a gifted machinist here and I will speak with him about opening up a die for the .54 cal.

Having a nice clean way to lube bullets is a fine idea but I don't entirely see the need for sizing a muzzleloader bullet. Decent casting procedure should give a consistent diameter and stuffing it down 2-3 feet of bore will do the rest of it's a bit oversized. Getting it started is sometimes a little tricky but more about crown shape unless the bullet is considerably oversized.

I'm almost exclusively a roundball shooter with muzzleloaders so maybe I'm missing something.

round ball is a different animal , I have shot 3 different Parker Hale muzzleloaders volunteer, whitworth and the musketoon the first two can and will shoot very accurately at far distance. I also have shot a Thompson Center renegade with a GreenMountain fast twist drop in barrel and they loved the TC maxi .
I sized them for ease of lubing using the same lube that I was using for my BPCR rifle at the time. Shot great at our local club competitions out to 200yds.

I've got a Renegade with the long range hunter barrel too. My club doesn't do anything for longer range or conical events so I've never done any load work with it.
Hence my following what those of you with more experience are doing.

I used to travel to Bethune Saskatchewan for the BPCR match mainly the Canadian CSI Match , but it has been a few years . I have a fellow shooter that moved from Manitoba To Saskatoon and says that the muzzleloading club that they have is very active. They have trail walk with targets, they do 22 rf silhouette and they shoot a lot of round ball stuff. Camping at the range for matches.

Might be something to look into after this covid thing dies out

For me, the intent is not to size the projectile but to have a clean, efficient way to get SPG lube where I want it. When I have the proper dies, I will hone them so no sizing takes place. I have moulds to cast minnie balls, R.E.A.L. bullets and Maxie balls and round balls. All these, once started down the bore, load very easily. On the subject of T/C Maxie balls, Idahoelewis (YouTube) did some testing with lubing these and he found that lubing only the bottom groove, worked best in his rifle(s) I set out to pan lube 50 Maxies and ended up pouring too much lube in the pan and once I had cut them out of the pan, I had to scrape, with a modified popcicle stick, all the excess lube out of the big groove!!! Very much want to avoid doing that again!
