I was looking around today for a compact bino... had a look at various models today at WWS and cabelas in Winnipeg.

I was VERY impressed with the Minox BV 8X25mm.

First off, they are TINY! Exactly what I'm looking for. I passed them up at first to look at steiners/bushnell/nikons. I asked to check them out and I was SHOCKED with the brightness/clarity on this small optic. After looking at various small options, this model blows all options out of the water. I am so shocked at the size/image quality. If I didn't see it for myself, I'd call BS. I WILL be picking these up before deer camp.

I'll keep you posted when I actually have them at home.

I have looked through a few sets of Minox binoculars and they are quite impressive, especially for the price. Doug at Cameraland sometimes has some really good deals on them as well, might be worth a look.
 
Mine are the 6.5x32mm IF (Individual Focus). I wanted something compact, but not really compact like 20 - 25 mm sets, and I had read a good review on these but even so I was also very pleasantly surprised at the image quality. I got them from Cameraland, too. It was the best price I could find on them anywhere, and not just by a small margin.
 
I think they still make them in Germany, but I can't be sure. Their website doesn't specifically say that, but it is apparent that they still have a factory there, and I think the cameras at least are still made there. However, there is a line on the web-site describing one product as "German engineered" which is ambiguous enough to allow it to be assembled elsewhere, and my binoculars don't have "Made in ..." actually marked on them.
 
My BL 8x42 BR had a sticker that said "made in china". Designed, engineered, and inspected in Germany, but assembled in China. Pretty much every binocular under $1000 is made in China. Bushnell, Leupold, Vortex, Pentax, Nikon, Minox, and many others...
