I noticed at Cabela's they're clearing out the remaining stock of Minox ZA3 and ZA5 scopes. Assembled in the USA. When I checked their focus, every single one was wobbly. (I later read this was a common problem)

When I checked the ZV3, which is an offshore assembly (I think china?), it had none of the issues. The glass clarity was indistinguishable... the only major difference I could feel and hear were the audible clicks of the turrets. at $130 less than the ZA3, I'm really tempted to get a ZV3 with the BDC reticle.

Am I making a mistake or are these decent $220.xx scopes?

I have a ZA5 model. Its a great scope but they did have a problem with the ocular lens housing coming loose and mine was one of them. I contacted Minox in the US and they asked me to ship it back [no $10 fee like Bushnell] and they replaced it with a new one that has been upgraded and the that problem supposedly remedied. The guy at Minox [Greg Clark] was excellent to deal with, answered any email questions on the same day........great service.

when you sent it off, how long before it came back?

and ty.

i sent on back as the cross hair failed. was back to me, new in box about two weeks. i have three minox scopes and will add more in the future. my favorite is a z5 1.5x8. it takes a beating on a lightweight 338 06 and keep on going. my othere two are on mags and holding up well.

You are right the ZV3 is manufactured in china. They are clear and should withstand moderate recoil.

The ZA5 is being phased out for the new ZA HD line. The loose ocular is definitely a problem on the older scopes, the new one are of better design apparently.
