I picked up a newer Winchester 1886 short rifle a while back and recently have stripped it down to do the browning hammer and trigger swap in hopes of getting a lighter trigger and gaining the true half #### safety feature. At the same time I eliminated the tang safety and had picked up a lyman number 2 sight to put on. My question is in regards to the redundant inertia pin on the inertia firing pin and if it’s actually required. What I found is with the Lyman site installed and bolt fully open then middle inertia pin is pushing on my site post. The middle pin appears to be a redundant safety piece and I was wondering if there would be an issue with me removing it to get the extra 1/8th of an inch clearance I need for my site. The finger lever connecting pin seems hold the firing pin in place in the bolt so I don’t really see a need for the middle inertia pin. Any advice would be appreciated thanks.
