Missed Boats!!!

I haven't missed too many handguns but i did miss out on an almost new Mini-14 Ranch rifle for $200 because i couldn't squeeze the cash. I think about it everynow and then and sigh.

It was because of it that I tend to jump at a lot of other deals.

I had an AK and a Walther PPK purchased from Lever Arms. Sold them many, many years ago when I was raising cash for a down payment for my condo thinking that I'd be able to get them again. Then C-68 came along. I see alot of 'missed boats' with a 12-6 designation at bargain basement prices these days.

Hi

Artillery Luger, it had everything but the snail drum.

I was into Broomhandles at the time.

I have since been bitten by the luger bug.

Just to add to the topic, on the filp side, things I bought and I am glad I did because they exceeded expectations:

A Hi Standard Supermatic, like new in the box, made in 1966. Got it off of a widow that wanted to dump it at the cop shop. $200.00

A 1940 Luger made by Mauser. All matching, great shooter. $350.

An Inglis Hi Power. Great shape, a bit of polishing on the corners. $400.

An M1 Garand fitted with a new VAR barrel. $600.00

Bye-Bye Boat

Ah... standing on the pier and watching the back end of that proverbial boat sail away into the horizon. It was the summer of '75' and she was from Montreal and visiting her aunt who lived next door to me. My first glimpse of her was through the fence... she wore the tiniest white bikini this yokel had ever...what... this isn't "penthousestories.com"...never mind!

On another board they talked about handguns, we, as aficionados, pursue. Rather than this, I suggest we look at prizes that got away.

I have to admit I've run into and acquired a great many handgun deals over the years, here's a few that got away...

Had an elderly lad offer to 'give' me a Luger and a P-38 that her late husband had brought home from WWII instead of having them destroyed. Both Nazi marked. As I was not then [or now] "into" Nazi stuff [although I wouldn't turn down a nice Walther PP or PPK], instead I put her on to an acquaintance that did fancy frames for veteran's war medals. He was also into Nazi stuff. He framed both the lady's and her late husbands war medals in trade for the pistols. 8)

Stopped to pickup a 'take-out' tea at a gas station enroute to a gunshow about 2 years ago. I recon that put me about 5-10 mins behind getting there. Just as I arrived, at the first table by the door, a guy (who obviously got there before me] was just counting out $500 cash for a minty Colt pre-Series '70 "National Match" .45 pistol in the original box & papers with two original mags. To sweeten the deal the older seller (who was "getting out of" handguns) also had a minty period Colt .22 Conversion Unit to go with the N.M. pistol, also in original box with papers & two magazines that he threw in with the deal.

I'm sure there are others that I could recall in time but these two spring to mind right now...

NAA.
