So far had a great start to the archery elk season, lots of action, bugling bulls everywhere. Been in close to the herd several times and never got busted just never got any real chances for a shot. Still nothing like a screaming bull so close you can smell him though. Well tonight was the night, sat through a rain storm with no action but the sun came out and the evening seemed promising. Out of nowhere a large frame 5×5 moved up the canyon not making a sound, came to full draw as he stepped behind some spruce and waited.... when he finally came out he moved quickly past my shooting lane and the only other shot I had was a narrow opening in the trees so I carefully followed him and released. I now have wet everything, a broadhead lost in a tree, and an as yet unfilled tag. It still burns but was a good time anyway, and best of luck to anyone else getting out! Now I'm going to drink some rum...
