Missing Step in Ruger Mk III Reassembly

I've discovered there's a missing step in the official instructions on how to reassemble a Ruger Mk III semi-automatic .22.

I've put a description here on my blog with an illustration.

Basically the issue is that the magazine disconnect means the trigger cannot be held back at the point you reinsert the mainspring housing.

The solution, after you've got the bolt inserted, and the mainspring housing bolt stop pin inserted, is to insert an empty magazine, flip the gun upside down, make sure the hammer strut is dangling, hold the trigger down and rotate the mainspring housing into the frame.

It's funny, they remembered to tell you to put the magazine in first to decock the gun, but forgot later in the same instructions.

Anyway, this is it guys. :)

After messing around for an hour trying to get mine back together I broke down and downloaded better instructions. I also found a video online that helped.

Wish I saw this post before I volunteered to help a guy at the range with the reassembly of his MkIII after he cleaned it and had trouble putting it together. I've gotten the disassembly and reassembly of my MkII down to an art but I couldn't get his MkIII together and gave up after a while. I went home and disassembled and reassembled my MkII quickly and easily. Didn't know about having to insert the magazine was necessary for reassembly.....go figure. I now have a deeper appreciation for my MkII Government Competition....

I'm not obsessive about my 22/45 Mk. III. I clean the bore and oil the moving parts occasionally. I bet it'll run for many years without the mallet and dog and pony show disassembly :)

I found it necessary to insert and remove the magazine a number of times during the process, but I've only done it a few times so far. Can you get the main spring housing back in the frame with the magazine in? I can't.

I had the issues of getting my MSH back in with my MKIII hunter while I was re assembling. I thought my hammer was fully foward, but I guess not. Threw the mag in, pulled the trigger and it went even more far foward. I kept wondering why it kept pulling back out when I was trying to close it. I did it once, no need to clean this thing for another few K rounds.
