I know we are not supposed to link to live auctions, but I'd be VERY VERY VERY surprised if anyone here were bidding on this.... thing. Let alone be willing to pay extra to import it.

Just look at that bolt! Bling-bling! Pretty sad humpery too - the fonts are awful. Just so much yuck. Notice how they tried to disguise the RC "X" by turning into some kind of asterisk?

And that, L&G, is why we do not like Mitchell's.

According to my book the * on the rifle indicates a "stern" rifle.not an Rc.

Doesn't matter what the markings are. It's a MM turd. Plain and simple. Mitchell Mauser's can take his "Certificate of Authenticity" and shove it where the sun don't shine. At least James River has the decency to be honest with the consumer.

Get a better book. That rifle was an RC before it was dinked with. The stock is a dead giveaway. Also, MM re-numbered it using a WW1 era US Ordnance font in an early ww2 layout and style.

A byf44, even a decent fake, would have a stamped and welded trigger guard and floorplate. The floorplate would be numbered in line with the bore axis, not athwart-ships.

The front band should be stamped. The bolt should be matte, blued, and roughly machined in 44. The stock is off a Steyr BNZ, probably a BNZ43. Buttplate has been on the buffing wheel and is probably yugoslavian. The bolt is missing the letter suffix. Look how much material the humper removed to re-number the bolt shroud. Bad quality fake cleaning rod.

Look, I don't mind a restored K98k the have a representative rifle, particularly if it's a hard to find model or code. But if you're going to hump it up, be honest that it's a humped rifle. Don;t slap on a glittery "certificate of authenticity" and call it something it's not. And if you're going to hump it, at least try to use the right parts, serialize it something like the originals were done, etc.

this thing is just so much fail, I don;t know where to begin :(

You could get it for $800....comapred to the rough RC's selling here for $700 I dunno how ####ty that MM is anymore. Still ####ty, but looks pretty.

They are great shooters and function tip top. Good rifles... but that is not the problem.

I would have no problem with MM if they refurbished/restored some shot out YCs, RCs or sporter K98s to accurate representation of an original condition German K98. Nothing wrong with that in my eyes. It is the blatant falsification of perfectly good rifles and marketing them as complete originals. Which is poorly done by the way. They also have had a history of turning Yugo M48s into German K98s. Adding SS markings and passing them as such. Google some MM adds, they are complete bullsh!t. <rant off>

There could be a truckload of matching Mausers dropped in my driveway. I wouldn't even go out to look. Not my cup of tea.

Great contribution to this thread by the way. We all wanted to know your opinion of Mausers. Good for you!

Why thank you ! ;)

Your opinion of the Holy Grail is not shared by everyone. No need to be so small-minded. Why would you choose a a rifle that was consistently a loser?

My Holy Grail is not a Mauser by the way, That would be a No4 MkI (T), but I can not afford a quality LE or Garand for the price of a quality Mauser at this time. And my apologies if my comment came off as assholian. But, why did you bother to comment on a thread about Mausers, if you have no interest?

It's a gun, guns do not win wars by themselves. How could I, who enjoys all WWII era firearms be considered small minded because I happen to be interested in a rifle used by the loosing side. Does this mean the AR-15/M-16 is a loser gun because it lost the first war it entered? The 1903 Springfield is a Mauser ffs.

forget it. I believe someone wants to argue for the sake of, well. nothing.
