Is this Mitchell's Mausers for real? They offer a whole bunch of SS-marked K98k with deathead markings etc. I heard that supposedly many of the SS-marked K98k's out there today are fakes. They even sell a bunch of SS-Sniper versions for $10,000. I'm just wondering if any of you have dealt with them before or know anybody who has. Their products certainly look nice, but it sounds a bit suspicious to me.

i wouldn't trust them with my $$. just read their ads about the yugo M48. from the link you supplied it looks like they changed the wording. they used to go on about the crest being dated 1943 and so on. and the rifles being produced during and after WWII (it is the M1948, WWII ended in 1945 last time i checked).

The yugoslavian M48 was manufactured from 1950 to 1965 at Zavodi Crvena Zastava was known as Produzece 44 meaning Enterprise 44 1945 to 1952. The Yugo m48 is a shorter intermediate version of the k98 and bolts will not interchange with a German k98.:)

which in my view is just a "plain jane" K98k for $2,500 USD. That seems a bit high for my taste, too. The 8x57IS ammo they offer seems kinda tempting, though.
 
The MM SS guns are Russian Captures that Mithcell's mixes and matches to get correct WaA's. They then stamp them to be whatever is worth alot on the market (ie, runes and heads) - Run, don't walk.
 
I haven't heard any positive comments on MM on any of the Yanqui forums.
They all seem to agree with the advice posted above.
 
Still crappy, because plenty of people will fall for that. Not to mention how difficult it will be to authenticate those in say, another 100 years...

No doubt! This is already an issue with many of them. Especially the ones that claim to have SS runes and deathheads and stuff like that on it.

I don't just bet it, I guarantee it. Numrich until recently used to sell the armorer's stamps and even number/letter stamps in the correct Oberndorf font!
 
i would not give these guys any of my money, they are classic con artists out to rip off the uninformed public. This is especially true w/ their M48's, they get em cheap then take em apart, clean/reblue them then re-cosmoline them. Then they say they came "perfectly preserved from a deep dark airtight mine 50000 feet below ground in Siberia". I read that thread on gunboards about em a long time ago and havnt trusted them sices. BTW there is a Mitchell troll on gunboards so if you post questions about their product and someone says how great they are, be weary, very weary....
 
I don't have alot of experience in the area, but I heard the Nazi's never even issued any rifles to SS units that were marked with any SS markings. So $10,000 bucks seems like a lot for a gun the supposedly doesn't exist. I've also heard there were many rifles counterfeited in Germany at the end of the war that vets brought back. I paid $295 for my 98k. It's czech, in good condition and the bore is nice. Good enough for me.

They did manufacture and issue k98's specifically for the SS. They were only made at the Steyr-Daimler-Puch factory in Austria and can be identified as belonging to the SS by the reciever markings. It should say "bnz" then the year and have 1 S rune. That being said, there are hundreds more "authentic" SS rifles out there now than there were ever produced....
