Mix and match upper and lower AR-15's

I would think most people would prefer...

1) Complete factory guns
2) Mismatched but factory upper and lower
3) Custom

I say that only because you may not know who did the custom work. Mismatched lowers and uppers "should" be as reliable as similiar factory quality complete guns in the same tier.

I think the appeal of a built rifle is mostly to the builder...if they sell it, the buyer is just looking for a deal.

I built my truck, built a lefty AR, and recently an SBR...the fact that I built them is meaningful to me...if I sell them, I doubt the next person would care.

Depends who does the rifle build. I've seen some amazing home builds and others mangled and bashed together. If I were buying a previously enjoyed AR and had the money I'd go with a factory build because you never know how competent the home builder is.

That said, built rifles can be a good deal. If that's what you're looking at get an accurate parts list and some detailed pictures before you finalize the buy.

There's a certain sense of satisfaction building your own AR. I have spent WAY more on my "home build" than I would just buying a quality factory AR, but I also got to personally choose each specific part of the rifle to my liking, and get to use ALL quality parts. I guarantee my Lothar Walther barrel is of greater quality than the barrel in many factory builds.

Not to mention, the first thing guys do to their factory rifles is customize them. Many of the parts guys swap out on their rifles require just as much knowledge to install as building a complete rifle does.

I now have what I believe to be a rifle built with very quality parts, tailored perfectly to my liking :)

It's like how Hungry-tuned M305s resell for around $1000, because you know they're good ;)

I would think that it could kill the resale value, and your "$2000" rig is only going to sell for $500, or you could drastically exceed the sale value of a factory rifle.

I have a Daniel Defense M4V5, I could probably sell it rather quickly at an honest $1500 because it's seen some use. They are listed for $1575 from Wolverine Supplies where I bought it from. However if I switch out the barrel for a custom match version, and stick in a match trigger that might put the value up above $2000, depending on other parameters.

Ah who am I kidding, with this market I could probably sell it for enough to put a down payment on a house.

ERMAGHERD DDLPK! http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/details/602/Daniel-Defense-Lower-Parts-Kit.aspx Wolverine shows some Daniel Defense Lower Part kits in stock! Late night order a go-go! Probably gonna be put on backorder...

Unless there is a problem with the quality or grade of the anodizing everything will fit properly. Most people that buy an AR for the first time just want to look cool holding it. I have never had a problem selling or trading in any of my first 3 builds. None of the uppers and lowers matched by manufacturer. If you buy quality parts the finished product will rock & roll and will look cool at the same time. One thing you cant do if you sell a mismached build is try and sell it with a mismatched coloured PMag. Nobody likes to get a dark earth PMag in an AR. They want matchie-matchie. Im glad now nobody wanted oddball coloured PMags. Build 5 will be starting out with a matched Aero Precision upper/lower that I bought from ArmsEast, barrel from S&J hardware,BCG from NEA.
