Mixing shot

Have a lot of old lead shot left over from days gone by. Am doing quite a bit of trap shooting now and was wondering if combining lets say # 4, 5, 6 and some # 8 shot would be a good way to get rid of this shot. How would it pattern and would I be able to shoot my consistent 24's and 25's ha, ha I wish. Seriously would this be a wise decision or should I stick to not doing this and just loading each shot size separately. Do not know how effective a #4 shot size would be on clays but I guess maybe I should try it. I suppose if you are on target than even BB should work. Anyway just looking for some knowledgeable advise as to what to do with this excess shot.

Don't know what the clubs in your area do, but most of the trap clubs in the U.S. where I have competed limit shot size to 7-1/2 as the largest allowable.

Don't do it if you are shooting at a club. Clay target ranges are laid out with shotfall zones that reflect the fall distances of #7-1/2. Larger shot goes further and by using it shot may land outside the zone resulting in negative repercussions for the club.

I'm in the same situation with a lot of hunting lead left so I asked the club president today about using 6s on our skeet field. He agreed as long as the sporting clays course was not in use (sensible as it is down range, I had already considered this and that's why I asked). We have enough land that it won't effect anything off site. If you need to shoot it do it ask the club executive if it's permited under any or special circumstances. Our clays course is not open on Wednesdays so there you go.
