MK 3 Enfield Sighting, Need Help with A Range Question

Hey folks.

I bought a Mk 3 (Or Mark 1, number 3), SHT Peddled Scheme Enfield just after last Christmas... and have finally taken it out to start shooting it.

The problem I am finding is that it is shooting, very low at 50 yards. Have to move the sights up to nearly 600 yards, to hit zero.

I'm exparimenting with hand loads, and finding that it's rising the impact point up somewhat... but still not quite enough.


My question is, is this normal for this rifle at 50 yards to be down like this? Is this rifle designed to shoot much farther away, and will rise to zero at 100 to 200 yards?

Try some Military Mark VII Ball and see where it is hitting, then go from there. Too many people expect every type and weight of ammunition to hit where the sights are, but bullets, weights, powder charges, primers and all kinds of things can cause other results.

Also, is it it cut down or "sporterized?" If not, check for the "U" shaped yoke and spring in the end of the forestock near the muzzle. This is a bearing point to put pressure on the barrel.

Where might I find some of that ammunition?

I know that ammo can have effects on rifle accuracy, as I discovered when figuring out what sort of ammo my Mk 4 needs to shoot, which is why I did tests with 174 grain today. Highest charge without blowing up the gun (39 grains of Varget) was still a bit low. Have 180 grain as well that I'll do some loads to check out, for next time. I also have a lower front sight post I'll swap out to see what I can do.

The yoke is there, as is the spring. It has (had) the full wooden furniture on, when I shot.
